Hi, i'm william. I'm concerned about whether i should join a professional organization? I'm a freshmen with psychology major and want to become a counselor in the future. If i should join an organization now, should i join the organization in my state such as Illinois Couseling Association, the America Couseling Association or the America Psychology Association ?

What's more, i'm having individual therapy now, can the hours i'm having count as the professional requring hours as a Ph. D?

Thank you so much

No, you're the client and not the therapist. Even if you are the therapist, you can't even count Masters hours towards your PhD hours. It definitely doesn't count during undergrad.

Unless you are planning on getting involved, I wouldn't spend the money as an undergrad. If you want to stay up to date on the journal that comes with the subscription, use the library. If you are going to apply to a MA or PhD program, consider joining towards the end of your BA/BS so you can put it on your vita.

If you are thinking of an MA - you would likely join the ACA
If you are thinking of a PhD/PsyD from an APA program- you would obviously join the APA
