Hi everyone,

I am international applicant applying from Canada. cGPA 3.45, sGPA 3.35. I have applied to 12 DO schools, been verified and should be released to schools anytime now.

I have an MCAT scheduled for July 2nd. However, after some preparation and completion of practice tests I am devastated. I am getting composite scores of low 20's (i.e. 21, 24, 25). As an international student, I cannot afford to have a mediocre score, and should be 28+ in order to get recognition in most schools.

Now, I m thinking of rescheduling my MCAT and giving myself more time to prepare. So, I am thinking of writing it in late August - early September. This way, I do not have to risk sending applications with a low mcat score and having my application tossed away. However, I am also risking having my application complete fairly late in the cycle. And yes, i would have to pay the entire fee again since I have passed the aamc deadlines.

Do you guys think I should cancel current exam and reschedule? Or do you think I should sit the July 2nd exam, but void my score and reschedule 48 hours after? (but, this way spots may fill up in the upcoming weeks).

I am so confused, please help me guys 🙁 🙁 What would you do if you were in my place?

Don't void, since it will still appear on your transcript, but simply without #s. Resched and do it whenever you feel comfortable to do well, since there is no candy for not doing well, and if you cannot do well on the practice tests, do not expect a miracle to happen on the exam. So practice, practice, practice

The thing is no matter what, you feel like crap after taking the test. I felt like crap on some sections on my MCAT and ended up doing better than in my practice tests. the other sections, I felt like I did better and did worse. There is no way to be know whether or not you should void. I am sure there are people out there with like 36's that ended up voiding it heh. Do not take the test unless you are hitting like 2 points above where you want to be. So dont take it until you are hitting 30 consistently (if you want that 28). Even if it takes waiting a year for the next cycle, it will be worth it. This whole journey is a marathon, not a sprint. If you bum rush in unprepared, you will waste a lot of time, money, and hope.

Another option is podiatry (if you just CANT get that score up, even after a couple more months of studying). PM me if you want more info on it, I used to work at a surgical podiatrists. Its a solid field, that should not be dismissed without really checking it out.

So, do you suggest I void and reschedule, or cancel and reschedule?

There is no way a void is still on your application. You better cite that bad boy.
From what I heard from other students, when you void your score, and later log on to the AAMC where you view the scores for MCAT it will list the day when you voided the exam. However, there will be blanks beside the corresponding P/V/B sections. Since it will be visible on the AAMC, my projection is that when you transfer your MCAT scores to the AACOMAS, all the records will appear on your application. That's my guess, if you want to be sure, you better message AACOMAS directly.

Thank you for great words

I can confirm that you can see voids on the aamc site but when I switched it over to aacomas only my actual score showed up. I assume med schools can't see voids or don't care. I hope so at least because I voided.

So, do you suggest I void and reschedule, or cancel and reschedule?
I mean personally I would cancel and reschedule. Just sit yourself down, go through the SN2 method for the next couple months, get your scores to the point that you are really confident and then and ONLY THEN take it.

I do not think the void then reschedule is worth your time. It is a waste of money to just take the test, only to basically assume you will cancel the score right after you take it. Because regardless of if you are at the 22 or 32 practcie score range, you will still feel awful after taking it haha. You will likely feel the same level of awfulness. So instead of psyching yourself out, and wasting time. Just get a really good study schedule (SN2), hit it hard, and take the test later. Even if you take it in september or something, you will still be plenty fine for this cycle, if the rest of your app is together.

Get those practice tests up to the 30's and you are solid to go.

I voided my exam once and this is what shows up when I log in to see my scores: **Please note that voided scores are not reported on any official score reports from the MCAT Program. So no worries about taking the exam then voiding if you feel bad about it.

You know I checked again and got the same thing. So OP just take it and void it if you paid already. It's a great practice test. The voided score is listed below my actual score. Not even listed side by side.

The thing is, regardless, I am losing the entire fee for the test because I have already passed the deadline to reschedule with a lower fee. So, I would need to pay again to reschedule for the test, and lose the fee that I paid for the July 2 exam.

The only catch about this is that, I cannot reschedule until another 2.5 weeks and I am scared that by then, spots may have been filled up for September 🙁 What do you recommend in this situation?

Ahh then yea just take it, it is good practice. If you are scoring low 20s up until that point, do not get it scored though, there will be no magical +10 that randomly happens heh. But at least it will help get some jitters out.
