My residency gives me one week and $500 for a conference as a PGY 1. Anybody have any recommendations? I've been to ACEP in '03 and '02, and I wouldn't mind doing that again, but I thought I'd check into other stuff as well.

I'm debating the same thing myself, with the ACEP Scientific Assembly coming up in Sept vs. the AAEM Scientific Assembly in Feb. Maybe I'll do both. I've never been to the AAEM conference before. I've been to two ACEPs, and it's huge. The quality of the educational sessions was variable in my experience. Some quite good, others very dull and cookie cutter, too basic even for senior residents much less practicing physicians. With both SAs in California, I'll probably do both.

I've belonged to ACEP since I early med school, so I'm still a member out of habit. Being out of residency, it's become a very expensive habit, so I may drop that membership in favor of AAEM of which I'm already a fellow. Politically, I'm more in line with AAEM anyway.
