The usmle has a lot of biostats. Additionally, understanding statistics will help you understand papers more. I'd recommend taking the course at some point, even if it's not required.
I don't know if there schools out there that require it, but you would do yourself good to take it before med school if you have the time... I just started med school and they used about 6 hours to cover the whole biostats. Imagine how difficult it is for some people who have never taken even a basic statistics class...
6 hours is plenty. The med school version is more relevant and immediately useful.
If you don't know anything about statistics, I highly recommend High-Yield Biostatistics by Glaser. It's a thin book and very easy to read. You can get a used copy for $2 on Amazon.
