Well alot of other stuff factors in, if you consider hours put in, its prob. ortho, but if you look at it in general you will see it would be radiology with probably double the stress and hours. It really depends on what you like to do, as cliche' as that may sound. But really, you will make alot of money in MOST healthcare doctorate fields if you love what you are doing.

In dentistry, because of the lack of insurance, the sky is the limit. You can make as much/as little as you want to. I worked for a GP that worked literaly 15-20 hours a week, barely pulled 100K and absolutely loved it. I have worked for a GP that worked 5 days a week, did a lot of cosmetic work, etc and made over 2 million a year. It is a lot easier to make more money as an ortho than a gp, but the same principle applies. You can make as much as you want to as a dentist, whereas the md can have a cap on how much you can make because of insurance.

Neither. My uncle who has only education of 9th grade and was waiter for 5 years in his life. Now a businessman and owns a 5 Hotels (holidayinn Express) makes more money than you can imagine. If you really want to make millinos, you are in a wrong profession. This profession will provide good life style and don't do something just becasue it pays more money. There is more to life than just money.

I'll answer your question with another question: who cares?

I've heard of an MD radiologist in the Michigan area raking in $1.5 MM a year. I've also seen a 4-day a week radiologist position advertised at $90,000/yr. On the other hand there are orthodontists making between $120k-$500k+

Dental radiology is an extremely small specialty but they can make as much as $1MM a year as well.

It's actually kind of hard to pin down the best answer to your question.

Any credibility you pretended to have just went out the window. It is unlikely that you know any of the 5 or so oral radiologists in private practice so I know you pulled that number out of your butt.

Good call. Most dental radiologists are going to be in academics. And there aren't many seven figure faculty positions out there.

i still don't understand the purpose of a dental radiologist.

I don't either. That's probably why some previous posts state that most of them don't practice.

you are correct. There are tons on people in business who makes 3-4 times what doctors make. How do they do this, others work for them,
you on the other hand have to work yourself.

If you think ortho is easy, you are wrong--it's more time consuming
than radiology---2-4 years

Ortho will make a lot of money; I don't know compared to radios though. The reason is b/c there are so few graduating orthos compared to retiring orthos. There used to be various ways to become an ortho other than going to school. You could become an ortho by preceptorships or ortho school. There were many more schools in the past that no longer exist that had ortho programs. Also, the ortho programs graduated more students per year. This produced more orthos in the past compared to the amount graduating now.

The demand for braces will only increase given increased public dental education and the increase in population. Orthos will make a ton.

"Pay expectations are high: Candidates expect to take home average salaries of $88,087 in their first year after graduation, up from $81,658 the previous year -- and a hefty $167,052 five years down the road.

There was a nearly $8,000 gap in expected salaries between men and women, with men expecting $94,710 and women expecting $86,805.

"This is an almost self-inflicted salary gap, because it's what they're expecting to get," said Tattanelli. "It has increased from last year. Part of it is because women gravitate to the consumer goods industries that don't always have top salaries."

"Students expect competitive salaries out of business school," she added. "And companies are giving them that."

actually, we just had a guest speaker last week who happened to be a dental radiologist. he wouldn't give an exact number, but he's making 7 figures, easy. then again, i think he's pretty up there in the field. dental radiology is a cutting edge field, and if u'r hella good with computers and imaging, etc., you can do A LOT of consulation work from your office...which can be your home. you'll make a very good living in either field, it's all a matter of lifestyle. if you work hard as an ortho, you could be seeing 100 - 150 patients a day...each for about a couple of minutes, just to show your face and approve what your assistants are doing. as a dent. rad, you could do just consultation work, and be on vacation all the time :D as long as you have your laptop and wifi with you. seriously tho, just find a field that you will enjoy...the lifestyles will always be there...
