Which is more difficult, Biology or Gen Chem. I was surprised to see that Gen Chem 1 is a pre-req for Bio 1 at my school. I know just being a pre-req doesn't make it more difficult, and it will vary from person to person but what's your opinion?

The third one. The third one is WAY harder then all the rest.

ha.. accidentally hit enter

he he, couldn't resist posting something!

Bio is easy but more work since you have to memorize stuff. Chem is harder for some because you have to do math. I swear 90% of the people in biology are there because they think they're getting away from having to do math ever again!

it depends on whether you like math or not. you won't see a whole lot in bio. chem is cool because there are a lot of trends that go on that most things fall in to. i liked bio because you learn about how the body, etc works. zoology kind of sucked (my prof was retarted and i met my gf that quarter). classes are the best once you get to upper division though. before that, it's taking classes because you have to.

they teach everything out of order...and people take stuff way out of order.

Our biochem department just hired a Math PhD, and one of my profs is pushing for biology classes taught by a physics, chem, math, and bio prof.

One is not harder in theory...they are all part of the same game

Bio is more work. Chem is harder.

They're both easy, if you study well and a lot😳

i didnt see anything particularly difficult about either.

Thanks for answering the question

both are high school level classes in my opinion.

They are pretty stressful if you attend less than half the classes and don't read anything until the night before the exam imo.

overall, bio might be easier, but it's a lot more work than gen chem.

The question was which is more difficult. Unless you found them exactly the same difficulty, you are just being an asinine braggart.

Biology is easier than Chemistry?hands down. Plus you generally don?t burn your facial hair off in bio?.. 😱 Man that stinks..... 😳

i think it really depends on the professor. for me, our chem class was easy and straightforward whereas one of our intro bio classes was co-taught by three professors and only one out of three was actually competent. we had to do this ridiculous genetics group project that, while interesting in theory, was a huge mess because the server we had to go to to look up genome stuff kept crashing making the project nearly impossible. the actual material for bio, such as what is tested on the MCAT, is pretty easy and manageable but I think the extra projects and/or undelightfully eccentric prof can change that.

so, i'd talk to former students at your own school and see what the deal is there.

I think bio is not hard. I even took one of my bio classes during a summer. Its a LOT of memorization though. About chem. Im not sure because I have yet to take them!
I think it depends on what you like. I enjoy bio and it was easy for me. Don't care for math that much so I will be taking chem in a long semester. Gives me more time to study!

I feel you on that one. I did that one semester and it was very stressful.

believe it or not, its possible to say what i said without being an asinine braggart. but, you're right i didnt answer the question... my second post was just a joke.

I know I was just goading you into a fight.

I can definitely relate to THAT statement! If I had attended more than half the lectures and opened my text other than 10/11pm the night before the exams I might have done better in gen chem! I somehow pulled off B's which given my aptitude for anything math related and my horrible work ethic, I was actually sadly pleased with. I got A's in bio with the same method but that's because it was lacking any sort of math.

I'd say biology is much easier - there isn't even that much memorization if you sat and listened through class. I did really well in gen chem, but that's not to say I didn't have to bust my ass on a few study sessions.

Basically, things get proportionately more difficult. Classes get more difficult, but you get better at handling the difficulty.

I would have to agree with everyone here. Chem is harder, but less work. If you have to chose one over the other, go with Chem first, as having some Chem background will help you out in Bio. Having Bio backgroung will do nothing for you in Chem. Just my two cents worth.

true true

Thanks! I like what I hear. I have finished gen chem, but I am more math inclined, personally. I am just a little relieved to hear that bio isn't harder in all regards. I had expected that bio would be more work, and because I am a little bit of a procrastinator (and haven't taken bio since i was a frosh in h.s.), it was just something i was curious about. Thanks again. 😎
