Which is more prestigious Cancer or Red Journal?

I was wondering where I should submit an article to. It's not JCO quality and I'm debating between Cancer or Red Journal. Which is considered more prestigious?

Cancer used to be more relevant but nowadays the Red Journal is more prestigious.

I think that is because of its focus on radiation.

And the fact that you can't get access to articles in the red journal if you're not at an institution that is already subscribed to the red journal. How do they expect to expand readership, impact factor, and viewing by other specialties, when the journal is so closed to access?

Florida has had a hard time with their budgets, so one of the big things cut has been journal subscriptions. It can be a pita at times. I've requested them to add journals in the past, but the e-mails are not responded to.

Clearly, we have access as residents to the journals we need. If there was something we didn't have access to, our department has funding and support to give us what we want and need. As for the ASTRO journals (PRO, red journal), the resident memberships give us free access regardless.

the online subscription is awesome but it sounds like you can get that from your attendings. i did this frequently as a resident and the thought of having to request them makes it hard to look things up on the fly. Guess thats life when public institutions are seeing budget cuts.

The online subscription is also included with the resident ASTRO membership. I just login with my e-mail address.

EDIT: It turns out our institutional lack of access was a temporary glitch and we do have institutional access now.

European, but have you considered annals of oncology? Slight edge impact wise over cancer i believe.

Between those two, if you think it has a good chance of being accepted at either i'd lean towards cancer just cos it's good to get other disciplines reading some more rad-onc laden literature 😉
