I just failed my second genetics exam, and I did average on the first one... I am pretty sure I'll end up with a C in the class, should I withdraw and get a W?? or just keep working on it? please help me, I wonder which one will look the worst on my application to dental school?

A C is going to negatively effect you more.

A 'C' will:
1. lower your sGPA
2. lower your BCP
3. lower your cGPA

On the contrary, a 'W' will:
1. Be on your transcript and will be open for discussion
2. Cost you additional fees to take the class again

🙂

C is bad if its your first C in that class.
W is bad if its your 2nd or 3rd W in that class.

Lesson of the day: get a W before you get your first C in that class. but the 2nd time around you might as well pull out and work hard.

worst situation: W and then a C

id rather get 3 W's than 3 C's.

W has to be better because there's always the benefit of doubt vs. a C which will lower all your GPAs.

I would say it depends what class it is and how many more classes you have. If you are lower classman then take the C. you have time to raise your grades. If you are older then I'd say W.

I have several C's from freshman and soph year and I have 9 interviews. No one asks about the Cs. But they would probably ask about a W. I would think spending time in interivews talking about faults is not a good use of time. It just depends whether you have time to raise your GPA still I would say.

Work hard, ace the final, and get a B-! best option I'd say!

That's a good point too 🙂 I'm a Bio major, and all but 1-2 of my upper-bio classes are C/C+. Not proud of it, but I had a great reason. Make sure you have a good reason, OP, which ever one you take. Good luck.

meh. a C is a C, it lowers your GPA and makes you look worse. I dont see how 1 or 2 more W's is worse than a bunch of C's (unless those are your 2nd or 3rd W's in the same class.)

As long as this isn't like your 4th W, a W is definitely better than a C.

lol as long as its not an admission advisor at your school, there are tons of threads with advisors giving horrible and useless advice.

4th W in the same class or total? Total isnt as bad as a 4th W in the same class.

Obviously, I'm referring to nth W on his/her entire transcript history. 4th W in the same class? What is that?

lol it has happened dont be so shocked. even a 4th W is probably better than a C. but where do you draw the line? why is the 4th W worse than a 3rd W or a 5th LOL the best thing to do is to avoid Ws and study hard to get As and Bs.

But then again the Cs usually come from classes you expect least. Sometimes you mess up the final or something goes wrong and you get a bad grade. Meanwhile a W is an expectation of getting such a grade so early on that you decide to drop, that doesnt make sense to me because unless you keep messing up and failing or getting low scores, you shouldnt really think of heading towards the W. You should study harder and fix the problem. (granted some prof or exams are too hard, but most are doable.)

I'm going to disagree....if OP gets into a dental school Dec 1, his grades will no longer matter, so as long as OP passes he's fine...

Unless the OP means for applying in the future, that being said, take the W!!

If it will be your only one, as you stated a W and a C

I will take a W anyday.

Assuming that this will be your only W.

One W on your transcript is okay.

Thank you all for the advice. I did drop the class and will do my best to keep it as only one W on my transcript.
I feel much better now, I am not stressing about that class, and I have more time studying for my other classes...
Good Luck to you all ..... GO Pre-Dents
