I'm still in highscool, but I was wondering if I should major in Biology or BioChem. I want to get my B.S. in 3 years, and then apply for Pharm Program. Bio or Biochem?? Which is better in application?

A lot of schools have a 6 year program, where you can do 2 years of pre-pharmacy coursework, and as long as you maintain a certain GPA, you are pretty much guaranteed to get into that school's pharmacy school. However, you can only do this straight out of high school. It is not absolutely necessary to get a degree before going to pharmacy school. But if you did want one, it doesn't really matter if you pick bio or biochem, pick whichever interests you more.

I agree with some of your statement and disagree with parts. Most schools offer the 2+4 option. two years undergrad. Just make sure you get your pre reqs in those two years. Just remember alot of programs are getting more compeditive. It is become more common that students are recieving bachlors before applying. It is not necessary though. Where i strongly disagree with the above statment is that says good gpa gets you in. There is so much more than grades that they consider. You need compeditive GPA, compeditive PCAT score, while not necessay ECs as well as pharmacy experience in the form of working or shadowing is always a plus. On top of all that you can't be a tool in your interview. The interview is a very important part where they decide weather or not they think you have the passion, determination, or maturity for pharmacy school. Sorry to ramble. If you do however want a bachlors, chose something that interests you, not just what you think they would want. They would rather see a succesful student in physcology than a sub par student in biology. Trust me if you do a major you do not enjoy your GPA will reflect it. In the end good luck and do well in school and everything else will fall into place.

you should do general bio if you want to finish in 3 years. biochem is doable, but some classes may be only offered fall or spring and you might miss them because you lack the prereqs. general bio will give you more flexibility when choosing your schedule.

as long as you have a good gpa, pcat, and other ec's you'll be fine.
