Just taking a look at potential classes for the summer and I am wondering which math option I should take.

#1. Statistics
#2. Trigonometry and Calculus 1.

Any thoughts?

I would say #2 because stat sometimes isnt considered a math for pre-reqs though I may be wrong.

trig is harder, but you will see it on the DAT

I for one am specifically taking Trig this semester to better prepare myself for the DAT this summer. The last time I took it, there were at least five Trig. questions. I scored a 15 in QR., mainly because I skipped most Trig. and the long word problems. I sort of knew it, but if you don't KNOW it, you'll easily run out of time in QR.

You need to study trig and study WORD PROBLEMS, WORD PROBLEMS, WORD PROBLEMS...or you'll get killed on the Quant. It's not enough to know how to DO word problems. You have to do them very quickly!

Take Calculus I and Calculus II some schools require it. I really do not think any schools require stats at all.

I have taken Calculus I, II, III and Linear Algebra....none of it helped for my dat...🙄

How much trig is on the DAT? I haven't taken it since high school. I took two semesters of non-calc based physics and used a bunch of trig there. Should that cover me, or am I just going to have to learn it on my own before I take the DAT this summer?

It wasn't easy for some people like me. I pretty much just gave up the trig section on the actual DAT. I think there were only 3-4 trig questions in QR.

Take all three. Stats you could fit into your schedule regardless of hours unless you're reaching the cap. Easy 4.0 right there. The only schools at which elementary stats should be challenging would be the tech institutions like MIT, CalTech, VT, GT, etc. Other than that, I know elementary stats is a cinch even at places like Harvard (know from personal experience). Ridiculously easy class.

But then again I know some people who failed it--they claim it was because they skipped a class. Depends on your background I'd guess.

I would take calculus I and II. Unless there is good reason to take stats instead I would assume calculus.

The only real math a dentist needs is to be able to count to 32.

Does anybody know where I can look online to see which schools require which math courses?

Oh so true. At my interview for UMDNJ, my bad QR score was brought up but the guy interviewing me said "It's ok though because you only need to count to be a dentist"
