Hi everyone,

I am currently a senior undergrad hoping to further my career with a MPH. However, my undergrad gpa seems to have suffered due to various reasons and even if I get all A's in the next semester, I will end up with a 2.7 (if lucky).

So, I have been searching to see which schools admit students on a provisional status ( to see if they can pull off the grad level coursework before admitting them).

Does anyone know which schools have this option and what would be my best way to get into a grad school?

Even a 2.7 can get into grad school. You just need to nail your GREs, have excellent letters of recommendation, and provide a personal statement that addresses your GPA.

See if you can take a few graduate level courses in your undergrad. If you ace those that would help.

Good luck

If your letters of recommendation, personal statement, GRE score, work/research experience are good, you should be fine. But most students with low GPAs also don't have notable letters, etc. As the other poster mentioned, your personal statement would be the place to explain your GPA (especially if it was due to illness, work, involvement in other things). Is it possible for you to take more classes to raise your GPA?

I know GWU will admit students as provisional if they have lower GPAs. I'm not sure if they have a cut off for that. I would would certainly make school your priority to ensure you get the best GPA possible (not that you haven't already, but if 2.7 is with all A's, do your best to achieve that). Also, as the others suggested, try taking some higher level classes. If you could try stats or epi related classes to show that you can do well in the more quantitative classes, that would be good.

I had a 2.9, and I was really worried about being accepted. It's important to show that there was a reason your GPA is low, but that those issues are in the past, and that you can do well in a grad program. You can also make yourself more competitive by showing yourself as a well-rounded candidate. I would recommend taking some time off between undergrad and applying for grad school. Get work experience in the specific area you want to go to school for. It may also help you get a really good reference.

Yeah, I am in a similar situation. I have a 3.15 GPA, will take my GREs soon, teaching assistant, and had two summer internships related to public health. What are the chances of getting into a program at UC Berkeley, Davis, UCLA, UC Irvine, USC, Dartmouth, BU, or other schools?

Has there been already a thread established for GPA and GREs averages for MPH programs?
