Hi,

I am an IMG and I applied last year for residency but didn't get residency due to missing ECFMG certificate (wasn't in by July 1st). So now I am applying again and ECFMG automatically sent last years MSPE to the ERAS office. I submitted a new updated version of MSPE (I graduated since the last one was written) and the new one is now uploaded to the ERAS office. I looked on "Track application" on ERAS and it shows both and it says received but not viewable until Nov 1st on both MSPE but when I click on some programs it says holding for Nov 1st release on the new one. Why is it different on different programs? I thought the old one will be overwritten by the new one. So will the programs be able to read both, only the old one or only the new one? I am afraid they will read the wrong one and it will slim my chances to none. The old one wasn't written very well and didn't include information about how our school system works and that we don't have written evaluations and rankings etc.
Thank you for any answers!

I know for a fact that ERAS says it does not save information from previous application seasons (I will post their exact statement if I can find it); they discard all applicant info at the end of the season. So it may be ECFMG that saved your info from last year and then retransmitted it to ERAS again this year. Hence, you may have to contact ECFMG to have that problem fixed.

Your old MSPE will not be overwritten by the new one if ECFMG submitted both. Usually when new documents are sent to ERAS they're not overwritten, rather, they're "included" with annotations. And I'm afraid if both MSPEs are available to programs then both will be viewable by the programs. Try to contact ECFMG to see if there is anything they can do for you.

Good news, the above is incorrect.

We can only see one MSPE, no matter how many are submitted. Any new MSPE overwrites an old one. Since programs can't see them until Nov 1, they will only see the new one.

Why do some programs seem to have two MSPE's and some only one? I have no idea. Perhaps you applied to different programs on different days? If so, if you applied after the new MSPE was uploaded, only the new one would be sent.

Thanks a lot for your answer. No, I have applied to all programs on the same day during the first week of September. The old MSPE was transmitted by ECFMG automatically to ERAS office on that day and the new one was uploaded by ECFMG to ERAS last week.
So I take your word that they will only see the new MSPE. I really hope so since I think that is why I haven't heard back from most programs yet after getting two invites and two rejections the very first week of September and haven't heard anything from the other 24 programs since then. Thank you again it calmed me down some! I guess I will see what gets uploaded on Nov 1st!

Actually, MSPE's are uploaded as available. They are encrypted on my end, and are not decrypted until Nov 1. So, nothing you see will change on Nov 1. But programs will still only have a single MSPE.
