Like in stethoscopes basic and tried and true "bread and butter" is Bestseller Classic III (or Cardio III/IV as a step up) - what is same silver standard or "beige corolla" so to speak for otoscope/ophthalmoscope set? Thank you
The difference is that almost ever hospital and clinic room has a welch allen setup, but you use your own stethoscope. so getting the same bread and butter standard may not make sense. however if you plan on using it for free clinics or mission trips, the welch allen portable with rechargeable battery is amazing.
In my case, the diagnostic set was zero bang for a whole lot of $. I have rarely used it during school and will likely never use it after graduation. I think the best situation would be bumming one off a classmate when you need it for OSCEs etc. Even if you pay someone $20 each time you're required to have one you'll still have saved hundreds.
doesn't matter which one you buy , because you still probably will have no idea what you're doing with it by the time fourth year rolls around. Also, everywhere you rotate has them so unless you're doing a mission trip don't buy one. Borrow an upperclassmen's for OSCEs.
I agree with Dozitgetchahi! don't spend your money on one unless you are forced to show you have one. And if that's the case you can get super cheap ones on the internet (allheart.com). You just need to go through the motions as a 1st/2nd year student. in 3rd year and beyond it gets more important to know what you're looking at but that's when you'll have better equipment in the clinic rooms/hospital rooms mounted/available.
