I am finalizing the schools I am going to apply to. I am thinking twice about applying to state/public schools especially if they prefer in-state students.

I am from California and if I consider applying to public DO schools, I am thinking of New Jersey, Ohio and Michigan State.

Any advice?

I don't know about New Jersey.
Michigan doesn't interview very many out of staters--I think this is one of the more difficult schools for out of staters to get into.
Ohio interview more, but they make you sign a contract saying that you will work in the state of Ohio for at least five years post graduation if you go to their school.

All in all, you are probably better off sticking with the private schools if you are looking for your best chance of acceptance.

Apply to UMDNJ. I won’t go into detail but a large portion of my class is out-of state. You can easily become a NJ resident before classes start. If you need to know more PM me.

Shhhhh, Nate dont go telling people that. That means I have to compete with even more people lol. Just kidding. yea hes right, its easy to get NJ residency.

HOW CAN ONE OBTAIN NEW JERSEY RESIDENCY? 🙂

Thanks for all your help. I chose to only apply to UMDNJ-SOM (and other private schools). 🙂

Although Lecom is not a public school, they tend to be midrange in tuition costs. About 50% of their students are from out of state. I pay an additional $1000 per year since I am from South Dakota. Once you are as far in debt as I am, $1000 doesn't really seem like a lot. Overall, I have been very happy at Lecom. Most of my classmates feel the same way, once you get past the whole dress code thing! 🙄
