What would y'all pursue?
I have 2 options, one is paid research by the university, I'm not even sure if I'd be doing any research or what it entails, I just know that since I am eligible for work study I am a fit for their Research Training program, with pay which is great for me.
The other is with a professor in immunology, I'd be in his lab helping out with his research in Multiple Sclerosis, I doubt it would be paid since I offered my time as volunteer time to him, so I'd be a volunteer researcher.
Which one would be more beneficial for me and my application? What would y'all choose?

in my opinion...find out what the research topic actually is for the first option and ask the PI to refer you to publications that are related to that work. You should do the same with your second option. Read through the articles and talk to other members in the lab to see what types of projects they will let you help out on. Go with whichever topic you are interested in and will also give you valuable skill sets. Also, if you choose the second option, i would suggest you ask the PI if you can do some sort of independent study so that you can at least get credit for the work you are doing.

Normally for work study, I believe research jobs include other supply/set-up tasks. If it were me, I would pick whatever research I think would be interesting. If you pick something you hate, you might have a negative thought on all research from here on out!

Yea ill make sure to ask, I'm thinking research in immunology (what prof mainly does and has dozens publications within it) would be more rewarding, seeing as the other is a training program apparently, bit I'll still definitely ask, thanks!

If you actually take part in the research, then take the one with the pay

Otherwise immunology

Go with the paid one. Since your research will not be in the field of dentistry, it's not gonna play a huge factor in your application. There is also the fact that you need to consider whose research is better funded. Their letter will open more doors if they are more well known around the scientific community.

Immunology, the introduction to the field is going to expand more than bench work. And that is going to be more beneficial for you in the long run.
