Hi, excuse me if a thread like this has already been posted. but i am a pre-podiatry student at oklahoma state university would consider myself a very competitive student (high GPA, a lot of shadowing hours, lots of community service, lots of campus activities, etc.). I am not specifically interested in sports medicine so a school that specializes in that would not suit me fully. Anyway, I have looked at all of the school websites and looked over some of the threads in the forums about the different schools. And they all seem too biased. It doesn't really matter a whole lot to me where it is or things like that. i'm looking for a place where i can get the best education possible. So, what i am looking for is, what is considered a good school? What schools are considered to be more prestigeous than the other schools?

Thank you all!

:beat: try using the search function. This has been discussed many times before and someone usually gets hurt. 😛

Its all subjective. A good school should have a high first time board pass rate (at least 90%) and good residency placement (ie all students match, especially in PM&S 36 month programs) among many other things IMHO.

hey bud u should be also looking at the quality of the clinicals each school provides along with price/scholarships which to most are important.

Board pass rates, good luck with that. Azpod, DMU, Scholl openly show theirs (with good reason). You should call the admissions offices and ask directly "FIRST time pass rates" for the other schools. Some will bull****t you and say its 100%, but that will be the overall pass rate. Specifically ask for this.

Ex: I asked barry about first time pass rates and they said 100% I know this is not true, especially considering how many people fail out from the program.

I think people get caught up in first time pass rates. That is what you are supposed to do (pass it). I would rather know what the average score was. I would prefer a school with 85 percent pass and average score of 93% (i dont' know how these tests are scored) than a pass rate of 97 but the average is much lower.

I know the first time pass for CSPM last year was over 90 percent, I don't have a specific number so I won't BS one, I can find out the exact number if you need to know. As far as the best education, You get out whatever you put in. And if you are in the top 20 percent in any school, you will have the opportunity to pick whatever residency you want.

CSPM is the best school if you want the short answer.

how much validity does this statement have for cspm students vying for bay area/seattle/portland residencies?

I can understand that the stats are important for factoring a reason to attend a school, etc. But isn't the board pass rate more dependent on individual progress and performance, and not so much on the school? The only thing I see with low pass rates, is perhaps the admissions may have admitted the wrong students into their program or that the student was unlucky that day and performed horribly, etc.

I feel that the schools can only provide us so much information to study and know, but isn't this all up to the individual student and what they make of their education at the school and outside with other resources? Isn't the clinical experience more important?😕

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but if you have any ideas or opinions about what I said, seriously, please feel free to express it. Maybe I'm missing something here... 🙂

And does residency programs judge a student based on whcih school they attended and received a DPM from?
