Hi all,

I'm excited to join this community, it's definitely a little more welcoming than pre-allo. This is my first time applying to osteopathic programs, but my second time also applying to allopathic.

It has been fairly difficult to find a list of schools to apply to, especially with limited GPA/MCAT stats on school sites. I will be the first to admit that I never thought of osteopathic as my future path, but the more I read about the philosophy and talk with people the more excited I get. Combine that with being able to live in nicer areas (I hate the north east!!), I am a happy guy 🙂.

Could someone please review my list of schools along with my stats and let me know if I have any school that I shouldn't list (too competitive/not competitive enough) or if I forgot any that I should list? I'm looking to apply to around 10 osteopathic programs.

non-science: 3.73, science 4.49, cumulative 3.57, MCAT 28T

I'm not sure if it matters, but a lot of my personal statement is geared towards the holistic side of medicine and the different lessons of care and compassion I have discovered.

Top schools to:
philadelphia college of osteopathic medicine
touro california
new york college of medicine
chicago college of osteopathic medicine
western university of health sciences
arizona college of osteopathic
des moines university
ohio university heritage college of osteopathic
lecom-b
philadelphia college of osteopathic
Kansas city college of osteopathic

Thank you,
Joshua

Geography as in "north east" or out of state-non friendly?

What do you think about Nova?

Thank you so much. Basically I've been in multiple feet of snow each winter from upstate new york and I want to dig myself out of it!

I don't care much about rankings, as I said in an earlier post. What I care about is that the students at the school are happy, the faculty are helpful, all the classes are there (I read that one school doesn't have anatomy??), and that we are well prepared for the boards.

I'm a little biased but I think NSUCOM would be worth looking into

😀 But Caaaaaaaarl, I actually posted that right before you.

One of the other main things is that I want to make sure none of these have low numbers of oos applicants. I've already spent enough money on this process last year!

They're pretty OOS friendly. Their website shows 51% in-state; 49% out-of-state for 2016.
I'm from the west coast with similar stats and was accepted. My interview day seemed pretty well balanced with OOS and IS applicants from what I can remember if that helps 🙂

This is what my school list is currently looking like (easier to read):

I could be wrong but I thought Ohio is OOS unfriendly. consensus is that NYCOM just sucks period.

NSU is legit. They do not prefer FL residents, I think FL residents might get a slightly discounted tuition or something but that's about it..

It's impossible not to have anatomy...Every school MUST have anatomy

Maybe he means anatomy lab. LECOM-PBL doesn't use cadavers for anatomy lab. That being said, PBL students still have access to prosected cadavers from the LDP/DSP people, but their anatomy lab doesn't require using them. They still do well on boards (slightly better than LDP some years - essentially the same) , so it must not affect them that much.

wait.. so they don't have anatomy practicals?

Don't do NYCOM, really (attrition rate problems)

And if you don't like the NE, take out UNECOM

You just read my mind, actually. I took them both off and I just submitted to 9 schools. I originally had UNECOM on because a good friend of mine's mother is a "big wig" (I think that's what SDN calls it) there, but I realized that I would be miserable in Maine.

Thank you so much for your time and advice 🙂

Going to sleep now, when I wake up I will start on my secondaries!

I disagree with, Didier. I think Nycom is a decent school with one of the better match lists.
