Just took GRE test for the second time. My first Quant score was significantly higher than the second but my second Verbal score was higher than the first. I was wondering which schools take best of both?...I know Davis does.
Also would it even be worth sending the second test to schools that don't mix test scores? Thanks!

If the tests were within 5 years of each other, all scores from all tests will be sent. You have no choice in the matter 😉

That said, Tufts will take the best composite score (best Q + best V).

But you choose which schools to send your scores to correct? I'm just trying to decide which test scores to send where

If you send a score to a school, they get the scores for all the times you take the test. You don't get to pick which schools get the first test score only, which get the second score only, and which get both. The report includes every time you took the test in the past 5 years so every school will get both.

Sorry, still a little confused. So after completing the GRE you choose 4 schools to send your scores to. This will send all of the scores that you have completed in the past 5 years. Ok good on that but say I sent my 1st GRE score to Cornell and 3 other schools but sent my 2nd score (my most recent) to 4 schools (not Cornell)..I would then have to resend my 2nd score to Cornell via ETS right?

I think I understand what you're asking... You have to send your most recent score to all the schools you want to apply to. For example, if I took the GRE two years ago and sent it to my 3 schools when I applied last year. Then I retook the GRE this year, and I would have to send my scores to all the schools I am applying to this round. If that includes the 3 schools I applied to last year, then yes, I have to resend it to them so they get the CURRENT score. All schools will receive both sets of scores.

Does that make sense? Basically, yes, you have to go through ETS to send your current score to Cornell, too, if you want to apply there.

Does anyone have an answer to the first question asked? Do most schools take your highest of verbal and highest of quantitative even if they were taken at different times?

Thanks for your help!

Ok thank you that helps a lot. It's somewhat of a strategy game when it comes to sending scores I've come to find...Purdue averages scores so it would have been best if I had sent my 1st score (which was combined (V/Q) higher) and not my second..even though I did better on the verbal on second...
I have a list going of schools i'm thinking of applying to and this is what I've gathered so far:
Schools taking best separate score of each V/Q: Davis, Cornell, Tufts
Schools taking best total score from single test: UPenn
Schools averaging all scores taken: Purdue

If any of the info is wrong or if people want to add, go for it!

Am I the only one who feels like there's been a big increase in people wanting to know how they can cheat the system in some way?

OP, if you took the GRE twice, it is your responsibility to send ALL the scores to ALL the schools you apply to. You need to report ALL the scores in VMCAS, and probably on supplementals as well. You cant just pick and choose where to send new score reports, because all the scores will be on VMCAS for the schools to see.
Even if you take the exam twice and your score goes down the second time, the schools will still see those scores, one way or another. And attempting to hide that can not only impact your acceptance chances, but could be a reason for dismissal if it comes out in the future.

Not saying I'm trying to hide my scores at all. I was just confused on the process of sending scores. Since you are only able to send scores to 4 schools on the date of the test..was wondering how/who to send the scores to for the rest of the schools I'll be applying to. I would think that there would be a better system so that you could send your scores directly to VMCAS instead of each individual school to avoid any confusion.

This! I think I tried to be damn clear in my response, and I think this topic has come up at least three times already this year. Hell, it came up in my orgo class today with someone talking about not sending a transcript because it showed a "W" on it to her med schools. UGH.

People. They're going to find out. Don't try to cheat the system. If you took the GRE more than once, you need to report it and send your most current score report to all your schools. If you took a class at a school, even if you did poorly or dropped it, you need to report it. It's very simple.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I was in no way trying to promote "cheating the system". I will definitely be sure to send all of my scores to all schools that I am considering. Thank you for clarifying the process for me.
I am still curious, from my initial question, if there are any more schools that take the best score from each V/Q since my 2 tests combined give me a better score this would be helpful information when planning to apply.

Most schools DO NOT take the best composite score and take only the most recent score or the best one score from one date. Not sure about specifics, but I am applying to 15 schools and only remember Tufts accepting the best composite score.

I think it's just that time of the year.

I think some of these are legitimate questions though. As long as you're not breaking rules, I don't see why it's a crime to "play the admissions game" with different tricks (says me, who generally tends to do things in terms of "what's fair for everyone" to my detriment). I think it's actually better that people ask these "is this legal?" type of questions. At least they have a conscience and just genuinely want to know if it's an advantageous thing to do, and if so, if it's in good form to do it.

The ones where people are just asking about how they should present themselves on paper don't bother me too much. The ones that do bother me are the ones where people think of doing things that hurts others, in order to make themselves look good.
