Which science classes were harder for everyone? The freshmen/sophmore "weedout classes" or the junior/senior upper division science classes. (excluding physical chemistry)

sorry i have yet to take any upper division classes but something like genetics compared to biology.
reason i ask is because people say profs will make the weedout classes harder on purpose to weedout those weeds, and it gets easier after that.

I didn't even know biology, chemistry, phys were weedout classes until after I took them. I really wouldn't say that any class is a "weed-out" class, they simply ask more than students want to give. If that's what you call a "weedout" class, I'm sorry pal, but life itself will "weed" you out until you have nothing left.
As for advice you can use, take each class separately and adjust accordingly. Some of my biology classes were a joke but others were a pain in the rear. Lower/upper division doesn't matter as much as the professor you have and the level of interactions with your classmates. Study groups make a big difference.

Obviously upper division is harder. That's why it's UPPER division.....
Of course, you're probably asking whether it's easier to get a better grade in upper or lower division science classes... I would still think upper division is harder to get a good grade in. That's just my own opinion.

i think this pertains more to my study habits and personality, but the more impersonal the class the harder of a time i typically had with it. so the giant weed-out classes were harder for me
I agree with most of the replies- upper div are upper div for a reason.. they're more in-depth, demanding, and generally harder to get good grades in. Think about it this way- all the people that got "weeded out" by the lower div classes are no longer there. So now who's at the bottom of the curve? You, if you're not studying like you should be.

I agree with Hassler. I scored higher on uppder division classes, but those courses were definately more challenging.
If you just started taking upper division classes with minimal background, chances are that you will be the guy padding the grades for everyone. On the contrary, for those that have taken many classes to get to where they are, there are so much overlap in the material and basic concepts that it is much easier for them to get the A.
