Why is the ketone tautomer more stable than the enol tautomer? Don't we want the negative charge on the O, which forms the enol tautomer, opposed to the ketone tautomer?
The keto form has a neutral carbon and a neutral oxygen and a strong carbon oxygen double bond.
The enol form requires the said bond to be broken and gives a charge to the carbon in the intermediate. Finally, the carbon carbon double bond is less stable so the keto form is favored.
