Hello,
At this point in time, I am doing a bit of "freaking out" and I want to know how credible I am for doing so. I am a pre-dental student, with high hopes to successfully get into Dental School! Here's the problem: So my freshman year I attended a private school, the tuition got to be a bit high and I picked up an almost-full time job and this killed my studies. My focus wasn't there and I did very, very poorly in my Gen Chem 2 class. I received a D in the class. And a few other C's in 2 bio classes. The private school life was not for me and I went to a community college, now transferring to state in the fall. I am retaking Gen Chem this summer at the same cc.

As of now, I believe my science GPA would be around a 2.6…maybe even less... and I am now a sophomore, about to be a junior. Surprisingly, my cGPA actually isn't terrible. I did very well in all of my other classes, putting me around a 3.4 there. I have a 3.8 at my CC, and am absolutely motivated to do well in state, I know what it takes now.

I still have courses like OChem and Physics to take, but my question is… Am I totally screwed? How can I fix this to still look competitive? I know how difficult it can be to raise such a low GPA! Please let me know!!! Thanks everyone.

Calculate what you need to get science above 3.0. Postbac + Masters also options.

If it makes you feel any better, this time exactly one year ago I had a 2.75 overall GPA. I busted my ass for the past year in Orgo II, Physics II, Genetics, Eukaryotic Cell Structure, Astronomy... Any science class I could get my hands on. After getting a 4.0 over the last 41 credits, I now I have a 3.27 GPA (sGPA is like 3.22) and am taking two classes in the first part of summer so that I can bump my overall GPA up to a 3.31 before I send out my applications.

Moral of the Story: You messed up. You had a more legitimate reason than I did (I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life so I was one of those lazy dinguses I now despise that throw money down the drain because I didn't even try), but we were still in the same boat. Now you have to bust your ass and get a 4.0, or as close to it as possible in order to make yourself barely competitive.

I don't know if I'll get into any schools this cycle. I'm taking the DAT in a month, and I have to nail it in order to even have a chance, I think. You're not dead in the water, but you're pretty damn close (I mean, you can take a SMP or MBA after but I really don't want to). The only thing you can do now is lower your shoulder and destroy your next two semesters. I know it's hard, but it's 100% possible.

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you need any motivation/tips/encouragement.
