I having trouble getting a LOR because the lecture is like 400 students and there is no way to get along with professor personally.
Seriously, I don't have to go to office hours because everythings are in the text book and professors seemed to be very very ignorable sometimes...
I did wanted to get LOR from ochem professor, but I honestly could not find any question to ask...... once again... everything is in the book...

So, My questions is which class did you guys get LOR from?
Did you guys get from like UPPER DIVISION class? labs?

please give me advice to get a good LOR from professor... or how to get along with professor so he.she can write me a good strong LOR.
I am going to apply 2008 cycle...

Thanks.

If you have the time you could volunteer in a lab and that way the professor will get to know you for sure. I don't think you need to come up with some question to approach a prof. WHy don't you schedule a meeting with one of them (in whos class you did really well) and explain them your situation.

One of my reference letters was from one of those huge classes where the prof had no idea who i was. I brought my resume, my transcript and I sat down with him for like 30min and explained to him what i want to do explained myself, my marks etc and he was more thn willing to write me a letter. But keep in mind that these letters are extremely impersonal and that you really should get to know a prof better to get better letters. Upper division courses tend to be smaller and the prof are more familiar with the stuents, so you might have better luck there.
Hope that help, best of luck!

I got to know my organic prof and my Biochem prof, and received A's in there classes and scored 90++ percentile on the comprehensive ACS examination for those courses. They wrote my science letters, I got my other letter from my first math prof, they taught the remedial math course I got placed in after being out of school for 6 years. I thought the math teacher would show my transformation from 4 years ago to now. I guess it worked.

i feel ya with ochem... I too seldomly have questions but I have made it a point to ask my teacher a question once a week...whether I know the answer or not... it has lead to us talking about different stuff and she's gotten a better sense of me now...
you need to talk to them...I also went on my schools website to see if the professors do any research and I ask them questions about it whether I care or not
You have to make yourself known.

Yea you really do need to make yourself known..

I knw my chemistry professor well enough that I used to wave to her outside of her lecture of 200 students and she would waive back haha. Just need to go to the office a lot, email her about stupid stuff, I think the only reason professors know me is because I go to their offices, ask questions, participated, email them, and even when I'm at their office, I say, "You remember me right? Guess my name.." Stupid stuff like that they will remember. Gluck

Cell Bio (I tooke the course and then was a TA for it)
Physics
Physiology
dentist
medical director of hospice
humanities class prof.

The most important thing to ask when you do ask for LOR is to say "Do you feel comfortable writting a GOOD letter for me"? You want to make sure the answer is yes before you proceed.

The first time I applied I had an Ochem prof, a dentist I interned w/ (gen practice for a summer), another dentist from that office, a microbiology prof (I took two classes from him, one was lab), and my family lawyer, who has known me since high school.

The second time around I used those same letters, but also added an honors history prof from my freshman year (whom I kept in good contact w/ during college), and a molecular bio prof (who was also my major advisor).

Each of these people knew me very well, they knew my study habits, work ethic, personality, drive, and grades.
