I am gathering my letters of recommendation, and was going to get one from someone in the research lab I am in. I have spent the most time with the PhD student who I am working with. I was wondering which letter would be better for me; the PhD student I am working under or the Faculty Advisor of the lab who I see much less but he still knows me and my work?

It should be under the name of the faculty advisor, but ask them to write it together (usually what happens is the PhD student will write most of it and the faculty advisor will sign it). Pretty common occurrence.
