While on ADT: Home on weekends

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Will I be able to go home on the weekends, assuming I'm not on call or anything. Do I need special permission?

If it's beyond a certain distance (usually 200 or 250 miles), you will not be permitted to leave. Also, you'll need special permission to leave the country (for those doing ADT in Tacoma, San Diego, El Paso or San Antonio).

At Tripler, you are not allowed to leave the island without being on pass or leave. I doubt this applies to your ADT, since you're talking about only going 55-60 miles, but since you mentioned being interested in TAMC on the other threads I thought you'd want to know.

Thanks. I had not planned to leave anyway. I have a cousin who is stationed there (enlisted) that I will probably hang out with on my down-time, so hopefully finding stuff to do won't be a problem.

It's only like 55 to 60 miles

Each installation is completely different. There is no standard. I go by the "don't ask, don't tell policy."

I am just a medical student, I didn't know there were these types of rules if I get caught. And the only way you get caught is if you can't make it back to work on time when you are supposed to be there.

When I was doing my ADT my actual home of record was a few hour drive so I would go there each weekend. No big deal. Obviously if you fly somewhere you become more at the mercy of good whether and airlines to get you back in time, which could of course be a disaster. If all else fails, get a "mileage pass" from your boss at work and that will assure you that you don't get in trouble.
