Hey!!

This thread isn`t as serious as others but I was wondering when the white coat ceremonies are for each school. I think I remember my tour guide at PCO saying their`s was on the first day. Also if anyone knows what the coats are like as well...I know some have your name and the school`s badge sewed on them while others are just plain white. If anyone wanted to toss their input in that`d be great!!

SCCO is before the first day? and Berkeley is at the end of 2nd year

SCO's ceremony is at the end of Sept. and we have a badge sewn on with the school's name. We have name tags that we pin on.

Yes.. and it looks sweet..

so do u guys wear the white coat when ure in clinic 24-7? I find some optometrists just opt out of wearing the coat and just dress professionally,

As students we're required to wear the white coat. During the summer when it's blazing hot (like over 105 or 110), we don't have to.

In real life? I probably won't wear it every day.

yea.. if ur in clinic you MUST wear your white coat.

For those of you who are in their first year...have you heard about what any other school's are like? and if any practicing optometrists actually wear their coat from their school...because the optoms I have worked with just dress professionally like mentioned above

Docs don't wear their school coats... student coats are short. Doctor's coats are long.

Does anyone know when SUNY does their white coat ceremony? Beginning of 1st year or 2nd year?

Don't think SUNY really has one to be honest. They tell you to order a specific coat and then give you a school badge for you to sew on.

You wear coats in clinic and particular labs. Unless you are in Peds. Then you don't wear the white coat.

Doctors that work at the SCHOOLS are likely required to wear their doctors' coats when they're in clinic. However, ODs that you've worked with....I mean if it's their own practice, they can wear whatever the heck they want. The school can't dictate what you wear in your OWN clinic. So some doctors who don't prefer to wear coats all day probably just won't as long as it's not against their own clinic policy.

At PUCO we get ours at the start of 3rd year

At PUCO it depends on the attending whether you have to wear the white coat or not. Some absolutely require it, but my current one allows us not to wear (thank goodness! too hot...)

My optometrist wears the white coat (not sure if it's from the school though) but then again everyone wears the exact same coat, even I had to as a volunteer haha. But in the summer months yup he just dressed professionally.
