which schools are in the big three?

I see different schools listed depending on the writer. Is it AUC, SGU, and Ross or Saba, AUC and SGU?

Who has the better financial offerings (ie loans). I found Saba to be quite expensive.

It's the BIG 4 AUC ROSS SGU and SABA, The Big 3 have Federal student loan,
AUC ROSS and SGU

The reason for the "3" and the "4" is that you can go to these schools and practice in all 50 states at this time. The rest of the 30 odd schools in the caribbean are anywhere from 40 to 47 US states. You have to be careful with the rest of these schools cause some do not have charters nor WHO listing and some have been blacklisted in some states ( listed as unacceptable in that state).

Look at the others and you will be shocked, in fact look at other medschools and the cost and you may be in for a shock, Medschool is not cheap 😱

Also talking to students who went to schools on the other islands, even though Saba is MUCH smaller than the other islands it seems as if we had more of the "comforts of home" than students on other islands did. I found that quite a shock....

Then again, you have to be able to stomach the airplane landing. 😉

How long is the stay at SABA Univ? I chose Ross because of the 16 month stay on the island.

All basic sciences. Then off to the US for clinicals. Roughly 2 years.

I'd rather spend 20 months at AUC than 16 in Grenada. The only benefit to ROSS is that the top student in the class gets an "upgrade" to live in an A/C tent, and I heard a rumor that you get to bunk with Sally Struthers! Hope you brought your bug spray!

What a Great rumor. Where did you hear that? Or did you actually attend Ross University??? You know...if everyone on this website were to go by what rumors they hear abt caribb schools then none of us would be applying nor attending them. If you really want to be a doctor try to stick with the facts and not stories and rumors.

Wow, I guess your "comforts" of home were much different than mine. As an AUC student that has traveled to ALL of the other islands, I can honestly say that the only one that comes close to a US lifestyle is Sint Maarten. Me, I'd rather so to McDonalds, hundreds of restaurants, beaches, Movie theatres, casinos, strip clubs?, swarma, lala, for 20 months. In reality, you will get a good basic science education from any of the BIG 4. The fact is that Dominica, Grenada, and Saba are completely third world BFE nowhere. My "shock" was when I saw Saba students shopping for groceries at "Cost you less," then taking the ferry back home. PM with any contradictions.

What amazes me the most is that a lot of students think that once you get your diploma, you get handed the keys to the 500k house and the lexus. Wrong. Seeing as though most IMGs go into FM or IM, if you think you are getting very far on 150k salary and >100k loans, you are fooling yourself.

That is all too true. Anyone who goes into medicine for money is in for a rude awakening when he has to spend at least $2000-3000 per month for 10-20 years on repaying his debt. Moreover, FM and IM do not pay very much if you have a family to take care of. The happiest doctors I knew loved their work and drove around in Accords and minivans.

If you want to make money, then go into business, if you want to make a small difference in the world, then become a competent and optimistic physician.

Great outlook. There are far more efficient ways of earning the money required to splurge on unneccessary luxury toys. In addition to having debt to repay, by the time your finished your residency training, you've already lost oh, let's see...11-15 years of potential money making time. Let me explain.
To make any real money in life all you need is a high school diploma.

Rather than paying for school for 11-15 years post highschool you could have been earning and investing. Becoming a doctor is a foolish choice if you wanna be "ridin' dirty".

Anyone out there from Ross ? Where would I find stats on residencies for Ross graduates ? I ask because I worked at a school that screened OUT Ross for residency.

Yeah it is.

Here is the official list of the 2009 recognized medical schools of the Texas Medical Board, it only includes AUC, SGU & Ross. According to them a Saba grad could be able to practice in Texas but he would have to substantially demonstrate education equivalence, which isn't exactly an easy feat. Saba students can always transfer though. Good luck. 🙂
