Gahh!! I don't know! Everyone keeps saying something different. When I talked to SF Match they said they email on the 14th, no earlier. However, it appears that last year people got an email the night before telling them that they matched. :scared::scared:

I can't believe we'll know in less than 48 hours!

You know, I'm also curious about various time zones and notification regarding the match.

Depends which time zone/program you match into. If you match west coast you will probably find out later. Some programs call early, some late...so it's a guessing game. My Dean's Office usually tells us at 6am Central Time...so I should have heard prior to my program informing me, as they called me at 10am Central.

Again, summary of the story. It's a crap shoot. If you DONT hear tonight that you did NOT match, then you matched and the question is WHERE.

Enjoy the last few hours of uncertainty in your future (for the next 4 years), soon enough it'll all be a lot more clear. I can't wait to find out who will be at my residency program

This whole process is TWEAKFEST 2010! I have spoke to the SF Match peeps, and they said that everyone who doesn't match, will get an email from SF. That fateful email which I call the Grim Peeper, has an unknown, unofficial time of delivery according to both my home medical school curriculum office, and according to the SF. Last year it is rumored to have been recieved across the country at different times in the late afternoon, early evening with no rhyme or reason. Confounding these matters further, is the fact that last year, contrary to their normally scheduled protocol, ALL applicants recieved a modified Grim Peeper essentially giving a Yes/No. Talk about a mind ****! The only semblance of stability amongst this whole process is that at a bare minimum, the Program Coordinator of each ophtho program will get in contact with their residents by thurs am between 8am-3pm. So in the end, the only predictable aspect of the is process is the wholly unpredictablness of it. Gear up for a KRAZY Day/Night. I'll be hanging with my friend Pam Loraza.

What is true at this point is that at the bare minimum, the Grim Peeper (not modified) will at least be going out today for sure. With the possibility of a modified peeper

Just called SF MATCH right now. Here's the deal:
EVERYONE gets an email tonight. If you matched you get a generic email stating that you matched. The details of which program you matched to will be emailed to you tomorrow by noon. If you didn't match, you get a generic email stating that you didn't match.

When tonight's email will be sent out is not clear...possibly around 8 pm is what I gather

So keep your fingers crossed
we are all freaking out
lets hope the match works out

just got the email!!! It verifies that you matched, and further says that your program location will be sent via email noon PST tomorrow

YAY, matched! Congrats to everyone, hang in there if you haven't got email, it will show up soon.

PD's are in the know and some have started calling! OMG!

I was really interested in what last year's email said and appreciated whoever posted it last year. Here is this year's email:

Congratulations,

You have matched in this years Ophthalmology Residency Match. You will receive official
notification from the SFMatch tomorrow via email beginning at noon (PST). The program director or representative should be in contact with you beginning tomorrow, or you may contact your Medical School Deans office.

Sincerely,
San Francisco Matching Program

Programs know their lists. Just had a PD email me about my match result! Hope it turns out well for everyone on SDN!

Anyone else that has matched, have you heard from PD via email or call?

phone call from the chair first, email from the PD ~1h later

Email from home school. Chair call mid morning.

Still waiting for call from PD/chair. My Dean's office is in some meeting and who knows when they will get out 😡

Anyone else happy to have matched but slightly disappointed? I matched at my #7 choice...really didn't think that would happen.

Dude, you wanna know what a real disappointment is? Not matching for the second straight year despite doubling your interview number from the previous year 😡😡😡😡😡 as an AMG, 99 on board scores, a year research fellowship in ophtho and 2 first author publications. What does someone have to do to get noticed as a great, future physician who loves ophthalmology?

The point is, if you don't like your #7, do one of 2 things - give it to me, or spend some time realizing you're one of the luckiest people in the world today and just enjoy it.

Let me say first that I am ecstatic to have matched. I am sure I will love where I am going to, actually I am pretty sure I will. But I just wasn't expecting it. I guess this year was pretty competitive.

Same rationalization I hear every year. "This year was extra difficult, etc."

Stop complaining and then qualifying it saying that you appreciate where you're going but are disappointed. It's just rude to those that didnt match.

I am sure there a lot of people like me out there. You can't tell me everyone is ecstatic just because they matched somewhere. I don't mean any disrespect to those that didn't match, I personally know how that feels.

Not everyone is overjoyed by their match. I share your feelings hinduluv and am feeling kinda cheated by the match. I understand that there are people who would kill for this spot, but just the act of submitting a rank list sets up expectations, especially when your school and others say almost everyone matches in their top 3. And regardless, not meeting expectations is disappointing. BTW this is a forum where everyone can discuss their thoughts, happy or sad.

Trust me I understand the weirdness of the match and unpredictable nature of it. I was happy with where I matched but not overjoyed. My 2 cents are, make the most of it. Being now a PGY3, I realize how lucky I am and am actually glad now where I matched. I have gotten opportunities I may have not had elsewhere and may now have changed my rank list.

Obviously, not everyone will get their top 3 choices. Even those who matched at their #1 may have doubts and think about the what-ifs in the coming weeks. Realize that if you listed the program on your rank list, you said you were willing to be a resident at that program.

If you have a positive attitude, your residency years can be fun.
