Who else thinks that they need a miracle to get into pharm school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
^are you serious? that SUCKS!! isn't that a good thing that the molecular bio and biochem overlap???
why would they make that exception just for cal poly? i think that's unfair!

Yah seriously. It makes it so I have to wait another year before I can apply to Western... If you look at their version of assist, for cal poly are molecular bio isn't shown as a class we can take and thats why I called. It might be worth asking again though but thats what the admissions lady told me on the phone.

today is orientation day for UOP and the last day they will be pulling people off the waiting list if anyone drops. I really need a miracle!

I like this thread. All i need is a miracle. Guys dont give up. My pastor once said, God is my only provider or God is your only provider. Not mommy, not daddy, not your job, only GOD. He will provide everything for you, even if that means a way into pharmacy school. All things are possible for those who believe. Praise god for his son jesus christ because he died on the cross for me to get into pharmacy school......

Here's my situation: Graduated back in 2003 with a subpar GPA of around a 2.75. Also, I went a semester with straight F's (didn't bother to drop my classes officially) and I have several withdrawals on my transcript, showing lack of commitment and progress. I basically just coasted during my ENTIRE undergrad years and graduated with a worthless general biology degree (can't do much with it unless you go on to more schooling). I was dealing with an anxiety disorder that was diagnosed later in my college career. That's not all. I take a couple of classes at a local community college since 2003 until now, but kept dropping (more W's) and have even failed them since I didn't bother to drop AGAIN. Last semester though, I stuck with two classes and made A's, although they were only Stats and Econ. Now I have Orgo I and Calc to look forward to this semester as well as Orgo II and Micro next semester. Honestly, am I wasting my time and money taking these classes in hopes of fulfilling pre-req's for pharm school in regards to my past academic history??? :scared:

Is this true that Western asks for 3 more LOR in addtional to LOR submitted to PharmCAS. If so, that really sucks b/c I cannot get any more LOR.🙁 though I already paid for Western app. to pharmCAS

I don't think you're wasting your time, but you are going to have to put tons more effort into this app thing. Get good LOR's pharm experience, a good PCAT, and you should have a shot!

Western doesn't care LOR via Pharmcas. So basically, you can ask the same people who filled out the Pharmcas LOR to fill out the LOR for Western. Last year, as I asked my professors to fill out LOR on Pharmcas for me, I also handed them the Western LOR forms too and came to pick up the Western forms a week later.

Good luck w/ your application,
-dtl

Yes it is true. This is the case for USC also. Perhaps you can ask your references to fill out the form and attach the letter they wrote to PharmCAS to the Western form. Good luck!

2.75 GPA, I haven't taken the time to calculate my science GPA's but I got C's in GChem 1, Cal, and Orgo2, 95 PCAT, what I hope are solid EC's and LoR's, and not a lot of pharm experience.

Hopefully I'll get a miracle.

I need a miracle. I royally screwed up my interview. 🙁

So far this is the time I need miracle mooooooost.

There's no such thing as a miracle. It's all about hard work, dedication and proving that you really wanna do this.

Here are my stats:
Science GPA in college (1991-95): 2.65
Postbac GPA (2005-07): 3.70
Overall science GPA: 3.02

Nonscience GPA: 3.35

PCAT composite (taken 8/07): 99
Biology: 94
Reading Comp: 86
Quantitative: 99
Chemistry: 95

I got interviews at UCSF and Hawaii-Hilo, waitlisted at Creighton Distance, and still waiting to hear from Touro-California and withdrew my app from UOP.

If you're really serious about doing pharm school, you'll have to show dedication and leadership qualities. Do something that you're really into and show that you're a leader in that field/club/whatever. Volunteer at a pharmacy and get to know the pharmacist so that he/she can write a really detailed, personal and powerful letter of recommendation. Get to know your profs well too. Retake the classes you did poorly in and kick *** (I retook all the classes I got C's and D's in and got nearly all A's). If you know that this is what you want to do, it'll show in your PharmCAS, your supplemental and your interview.

I knew that I had prepared long and hard for this, so when I did my first interview at UCSF, I knew that I wanted to get in, and believed that they wanted me as much as I wanted them. Going in with that confidence and belief in myself, I kicked ***. I even overheard them saying that I did well as I left my interview.

If you're not willing to do this, then, yes, you need a miracle. But if you want it bad enough, you'll do whatever it takes to show that you are a worthy candidate. I didn't spend the last three years working my *** off for something that I wasn't unsure of.

I do. I have good stats and I write decent essays, but I completely fall apart in interviews.

i think i seriously need a miracle. im starting to feel pretty discouraged since march is approaching... all i need is one acceptance. 🙁

The OP probably meant that even with hard work, good stats, Godly EC's and impeccable LOR's, a miracle is needed. (Well, that's how I see it.) When I interviewed at UCSF and talked with fellow candidates, it was evident how competitive and qualified everyone was. Even with hard work, you can only control so much in terms of your acceptance into pharmacy school.

Besides, the very definition of a "miracle" is completely subjective.

It's not a waste of time taking or retaking classes. If you know pharmacy is what you want to do, then go for it. I miserably did bad two semesters in a row with D's and F's and I knew that if I really wanted to get into pharmacy school, I would have to put my mind to it and work hard to bring my GPA back up. It wasn't an easy road, but my GPA is at least semi-decent enough to meet some school's minimum requirements. I still feel like I need a miracle, I applied to 7 schools and got rejected to one of them and got an interview invite to one of my top choice schools. So I'm hoping and praying I get in somewhere this fall. 🙂

oh, i feel your pain. I didn't do well on my last two interviews, so wait-listed! err.....need to speak properly in front of important people!!! yeah!

I need a miracle to get into either one of the 2 pharm schools I interviewed at... UCSF and USC. I was really stupid actually... i didn't apply to more schools when I should have; now I am regretting it.I need another miracle to get into a PharmD/MBA program since UCSF doesnt have one yet (and since i havent taken the GMAT)... though a colaboration with UC Berkeley's is not impossible.

oh and i need another miracle to lose weight... i am eating too damm much lately.

I did crappy on my interviews too, now i need a miracle to get off the waitlist for one school and maybe another to get on the waitlist for another...oh well😀

So did you guys stumble and answer questions slowly and awkwardly, or were you unable to answer some questions at all?

I kinda stumbled while answering the questions and sometimes I wasn't sure if I was answering the question correctly at all.

I get nervous (like all of as) and start speaking VERY fast. It is hard to be keeping track of what I am saying when I talk fast. That way I do not say the smartest things - instead I say the first thing that jumps into my head!!! 😉😉😉😉

But I am 100% sure I WILL SLOW DOWN for my interviews next year... 😀

:\ same thing with me. I tend to talk really fast when I'm nervous D:
Essay writing is my weakness

two words - mild sedative 🙄

Do you guys think that they might cut us some slack for being nervous and stumbling? Some people are perfect speakers in any situation. Just because I mess up in a high-stakes interview, it doesn't mean that I'd be less qualified to be a pharmacist. I think that I do quite well under other situations.

I think, if you just be yourself and take it as is, you should be fine. After all, they invited you out for an interview in the first place, that means you must have done something right. Just take it easy and be yourself.

Although, being able to relay what you want to say in an understandable manner is an important skill as a pharmacist, so it may play a role in how they view you to be as a future pharmacist.

But I do think it is understandable to be a little nervous, but not like.. totally-losing-it-and-unable-to-speak-properly nervous.

I need a miracle to just get through the stinkin' pre-reqs with decent grades!!!

I am in the same boat as you guys. I seriously need a miracle--both to get called into a interview and to get through the interview. Horrible at interviews! Turn into a jabbering mess. 🙁
