Enjoying pharmacy school?

I have read several posts of students lacking motivation once in pharmacy school. I'm curious to know who here is enjoying it?

At times, during undergrad, I felt unmotivated at times due to burnout but I remained undeterred in my pursuit of a pharmacy degree. I imagine when I start, the goal will be the same: to be an actual pharmacist.

In addition, I view it as an opportunity to get involved. An opportunity to grow intellectually and meet different people working toward a common goal.

I've had some experience in life, and so the career actually has more meaning now: a need to be living a decent life (with financial reward and a sense of accomplishment) while helping society.

I liked it for the most part. The workload was fine, it was the whiny classmates that I found tedious.

Pharmacy school was the most boring thing that ever happened to me. It was mind-numbingly boring 90% of the time. Working as a pharmacist can be exciting and interesting, depending on what you end up doing, but pharmacy school definitely was not. If not for my friends among my classmates, I don't know if I would bother showing up for class (I am proud to say I never skipped a class in pharmacy school, and even in undergrad I only skipped sociology a couple times). I fell asleep in almost every class, though...

I loved it. As a matter of fact, I would much rather do that than work. At least I can have my 4 month vacations...come to lectures at 12....

Well, school is always better than the real world, aside from the fact that you have no money to do anything you really want to do... but as much as I enjoyed undergrad, pharmacy school was horribly boring...

That was 1st semester of P2 year in a nutshell for me... if y'all remember. 😛 Thankfully, I was able to branch out and socialize with people who weren't on-edge 24/7, which helped a lot!

If you don't think you will enjoy it... Don't waste a space for someone who does. There a plenty of people ewith passion who want in

I've just started P4, and the last 3 years were the best years of my life in a long time! I had worked for awhile before going back to school, and (although I've always been the type who liked school) pharmacy school has been my favorite by far. I really enjoy being around intellectual peers every day, and I like the variety that pharmacy provides. So my message to you is jump in with both feet and enjoy every minute you can - it will be 2013 before you know it.

Pharmacy at uni is hard work. However, I generally enjoyed every minute and particularly found pharmaceutical engineering very useful when in industry and selling into the food industry. I got an order selling vitamins to a maragarine factory because I happened to recognise a votator.

My year was 1958. we met up a year or so back for reunion. Four in my year had become millionaires.

studying is way more fun than real life, especially if you work like a drone in retail. i actually miss pharm school life. 8-5 classes, then study from 6-11. just surround yourself with fun classmates that are good friends and cherish the times.

I know! And I haven't even started work yet, and I can feel it coming. 😱

It is amazing that I worked hard and conditioned myself intellectually to make it this far and at a prestigious (top ten) pharmacy school in the nation. Yet, I still doubt and wonder if I'll like it. But I know I will!

What you wrote really motivates me to look forward to the fall at UF!
Thanks for the word of wisdom.

Well, didn't you ask them for tips as to how they achieved it? You could then share with us. I'd love to get rich doing what I enjoy as a career.

I couldn't say that I actually "enjoy" pharmacy school, but there are some good times. I've made some new friends, which is awesome. And I agree with Hels that a lot of the classes are extremely boring. Maybe there is someone out there who is so passionate about pharmacy that he is just on the edge of his seat every single second of every lecture, but not me. Like a lot of things in life, school is what you make of it. But I'm still looking forward to graduating!

I don't enjoy having random projects thrown at me at anytime, but I do like learning the different facts about drugs and why certain ones are better for a particular patient. I also like it when we have case studies and have the opportunity to listen to the different ways my peers and I approach drug therapy. It's neat to see how we all come up with different approaches to problems. And while there are the moments when you feel like you can't handle the workload, knowing that you have friends in the class who all feel the same but encourage you to keep going makes it a little easier.

Maybe spending several years goofing off overseas ruined me - but my life (with the exception of meeting my future wife) has been on a steady decline of enjoyment ever since going back to school.

There is little glamor in toughing out school - by almost all measures I did well - but you wouldn't say I enjoyed the process. Having been on rotations has been fun though - so there is always a silver lining. Regardless of how much you like school - it's the job at the end of it all that you should love.

Ask WVU about his education sometime... That learning process has little to no influence on your life as a practitioner.

pharm school was ok. Didn't really like the cliques but whatever. life goes on.

pharm school to me was life in the fast lane: class, gym, study, eat, go home on weekends to work, and repeat every week for multiple years

school was fun, i learned how to take their tests real early, so i never had any problems class wise

made really good friends, but still wish there werent as many cliques, but i guess thats how it goes
