who is applying this cycle and has not yet started their PS?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
right there with you!

with the way my PS is going, i might as well be in this category

Yup, still haven't started it yet. My pre-med advisor requires this lengthy credentials file including an autobiography that I have willed myself to finish. Still throwing ideas around for the PS.

I haven't either...I'm not too worried about it

I wrote a terrible first draft that the writing center told me to scrap. So I guess I'm with ya!

Me too! Actually, it's because I haven't done anything I think adcoms will find worthy in the past year or so. All I've done is teach for Kaplan (SAT/SATIIs), and I love it...but it's hard for me to write a personal statement since I haven't done anything "medical" or "volunteer"-ish in a year...any suggestions?
OBVIOUSLY I had experiences in college and before that made me want to be a doc, but how can I talk about these if they were a couple years or more ago? Help! 😱

I have a first draft that is yet to be revised. I am still kind of nervous though. I feel that if I don't get this in exactly on June 1st by 12:01am, I will be doomed and won't get into any medical school, and will kick myself in the butt for not starting this earlier. Oh yeah, and then my parents won't love me anymore.
I wish I could think rationally right now.

Same here 🙁. According to the plan I drafted up earlier, I was supposed to have a first draft two weeks ago. Oops...

Well you can't turn it in until June 5th so you have more time.

I've been working on mine forever. I wrote most of it on my 13 hr flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong. I'm really in need of some feedback right now. June 1st is fast approaching! OMG, if I don't turn it in on June 1st, I'll never get an interview, and I'll never get into med school. *pkboi24 loses his *****

me too. I'm going to wait until the MCAT results give me "inspiration." 😉

Oh man....

I wouldn't start to worry for a while. I turned in my AMCAS October 15th  (I'm serious) and it all worked out for me. Not submitting on the first day or even in June or July is not the med school kiss of death. I honestly think people on this site so overrate the importance of turning your app in "early." It is much more important to make your app the best you possibly can and if that takes waiting until Aug to submit, I would wait. Good luck all and try not to crack up. 😀

I'm going to write it today! Or so I've been telling myself for the last two weeks.

Haha this thread reminds me of myself at this time last year. *tear*

I'm overhauling my last year's craptacular PS. I wrote up the first two paragraphs and when I read it back to myself, I fell asleep.

I totally agree with javert. I didn't have any inspiration to write mine during the summer, and instead of head pound over it, I just did other things. Then in late September, I sat down and more ideas came to me and I wrote my PS, submitted my app on Oct. 15th and did perfectly fine in the process. The only thing that matters is that you are 100% confident in your application before you send it off.

Stanford Medical School Class of 2010

i was in the same boat until one night, I just woke up at 3AM and started writing. Finished around 5AM. Now I'm in the editing phase, but I am seriously wondering if it's complete crap and I should just start over 🙁

Funny story though: A fellow pre-med IMed me last night asking how to start filling out his app. I gave him the link and a few minutes later he IMs me

WE HAVE TO WRITE AN ESSAY?!?!?!?!?!

That’s unbelievable. Tell him that it’s optional. :meanie:

I haven’t started my PS either, but my excuse is that I still have classes to worry about but somehow I can find time to roam SDN but can’t seem to get down to writing my PS.

right here with ya.

although i have a lot to write about, it sounds so cliche. i want to help people...and i love the science of medicine! i have to be a doctor, it's my calling!

really, i do feel like that, but how many different ways can thousands of applicants say the same thing with slight modifications?

i want to write in my ps that i originally didn't want to be a doctor because i didn't want to deal with liability, ineffective systems and hospital bureaucracy, but now i've decided that the positives outweigh the negatives. maybe a little too much information? sigh...
