I love it! I am laughing my butt off!

the ghosts of malpractice victims.... +pity+

Whoever they are, they must be very sadistic! They charge excessive amounts of money to pore over our secondary applications and leave us hanging for months at a time, pondering our fates! They must really like to see the applicants sweat!

Hmmm.....maybe Medical School Admissions Committee will be our next reality show! 10 people with very antagonistic (for the ratings) personalities locked in a room to discuss medical school applicants. Maybe there could even be dart throwing competitions, competitions to decide which adcom committee member has the applications from the greatest percentage of "unqualified applicants", a find the applicant with the highest/lowest MCAT race, and a contest to decide which committee member can devise the best excuse for rejecting someone!

Seriously, though.... I would like to know who really sits on admissions committees. I have heard that some of the medical school faculty, students, and local physicians make up some of them.

Holy ****, that's hilarious.
I could actually picture that. Ratings would be sky high due simply to the SDN contingent.

Humor aside, I guess I'll be the first to honestly answer your question:

Adcoms CAN consist of members from the following groups (in different proportions depending on the school):
- Clinical professors
- Basic Science Profs
- Alumni in practice
- Med Students
- Admissions Dept people (obviously, dean, chair etc.)
- Community members (people from the public- I know this to be true in some other countries, I'm not sure about USA)

At most schools, your interviewers will assess you, write a report and submit it and any verbal praises/negative commentary to the panel, which could have anywhere from 3-20 members. In some schools, the members will meet a few times over the semester (if not weekly) to review the interviewed files and conduct a "yay or nay" vote. Other schools use mathematical forumlae, weighting different portions of the application, where a particular adcom member's opinion would have a given weight in the outcome.

I'm no expert on admissions, but that's what little I know about the process and the adcoms. Hope that helps🙂

Y'all are wrong.

I make up all the ADCOMMs. I work here in my lab sticking and proding thigns up their butts. I then implant a microchip that allows me to shock them should they ever leave their cubicle, since we all know they have no life. At a very young age, i teach them the only words they know. Why medicine? Why here? I also gave them two 8 x 10 sheets of paper, one with "Dear Applicant, You suck" the other "Dear applicant, You Rock." THey decide which envelope to stuff the letter in by the flip of a coin-heads you rock, tails you suck.

Any other brain busters?!?
