According to my school, one of the projects that I gotta do while on this retail rotations is hold like a "Health Event Day" where I do blood pressure, blood glucose screenings, brown bag, etc.

In the case of the supplies that I would need to do this, is my site supposed to pay for the supplies, or is my school supposed to pay for the supplies? Because I'm sure that I'm not paying for the supplies.

You should have a blood pressure cuff already, patients should bring in their own diabetic supplies. The site will provide you with a table, chair, etc...

I'm not sure what else there is to pay for.

Yep, I have a blood pressure cuff (manual one, I don't trust the machines that CVS has at their stores.) Patients bringing in their own supplies, hmm. I guess I could put that on the flyer.

Sparda should have to pay....always, Sparda should have to pay.....

LOL. But my point is this. If I have to do a project for school, I typically pay for the supplies. I had to pay to have my poster printed. I had to pay for the paper I print my research paper on. I have to buy my own books. I see this as pretty much the same thing.

Glucose test strips are pretty darn expensive. I might as well not do any blood glucose monitoring and just do blood pressure screenings.

Keep in mind that as a pharmacy intern in NYS, you're not allowed to break a patient's skin. It might be easier to just have them bring in their glucose logs/monitors, and if they really want to get a spot glucose, they use their own equipment.

You're not really going to get any information from a snapshot fingerstick in a diabetic anyways, unless it's ridiculously high, low, or they're previously undiagnosed. If anything, the POC A1C monitors would be useful, but they cost a fortune.

Why don't you ask your school??

Stethescope and blood pressure cuff:
Why not borrow one? Talk to your classmates.

Blood glucose monitoring:
Even some of the frequent visitors are going to miss the flyers. With blood glucose monitoring, I recommend finding out which brand (or brands) your site sells the most often. Then contact a representative from that company (or companies), explain what you are doing, and see if they can give you a free meter and some test strips and lancets.

Rest of the supplies:
It doesn't hurt to ask. They should have some supplies sitting around from administering flu vaccines (ex. band aids and gloves). Poster board and paper for flyers will probably come out of your own pocket though.

I have a blood pressure cuff and stethoscope, so that's no problem. And I guess since I'm not allowed to break a patient's skin, then don't do blood glucose, other than having the patients do that themselves and teaching them proper technique.
