Who's Applied?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey. I submitted AMCAS in early June to 24 (!) MD/PhD programs (I'm a California resident). I won't bore you by listing all of them, but I'm applying to all UC's, plus Stanford and USC, and a variety of schools around the country. I'm also applying non-AMCAS to NYU and Columbia. I second the good luck to everyone.

Elizabeth

I applied through AMCAS in late June to 12 schools, sent my Columbia application in a couple days ago, and am about to mail in my NYU application. Unfortunately, my undergrad. health professions office doesn't complete and send our committee letters and letters of recommendation until the last week in the summer, so my file won't really be complete anywhere until...well, as soon as they receive that packet. But, it's nice to have something in and out of my hands... 😉

I sent my app out a few weeks ago, but it's now trapped in the AMCAS dimentional limbo as they have not yet recieved my transcript. I couldn't send it earlier because I am on a quarter system and was waiting for spring grades. I guess patients is a virtue, and I'll just have to wait it out 🙄

Good luck to all.

Pandora, my transcript took about two weeks to reach AMCAS and be added to my file, so don't worry if it takes awhile.

Any thoughts on starting to fill out secondaries and MSTP supplements for schools that don't screen before sending those? I found a handful online for the schools I'm applying to and was considering sending them out in the meanwhile...

I submitted early July (still relatively early for MSTP?) because I was debating on the focus of my personal statement, namely my goals as a physician or physician-scientist. I eventually ended up sticking with my aspiration to be a physician-scientist because I figured although many MD admission committees read these essays, MD-PhD is not the only route to become a physician-scientist. I don't know, what do you all think of that?

Uh, I wouldn't worry about submitting in early July. I submitted mine in late September. You're fine.

As for your statement, I had the same dilemma (and, if I recall correctly, so did others - we had a few threads on it). I ended up scewing it towards the clinical aspect in the AMCAS primary simply because you will have MORE THAN ENOUGH opportunity to write about your research and PS aspirations in the MD/PhD secondaries. Having said that, I'm sure you can't really go wrong. Just write honestly how you feel. If your primary goal is research, but can still make a good case for MD/PhD, the regular medschool adcoms will see that and pass you to the MD/PhD adcom. To be vetoed by the medschool is a very, very rare event, and one that would never happen based simply on your AMCAS personal statement (unless you wrote something like 'I hate working with people and those ****ing patients are only good for experiments' 😀).

Anyway, good luck guys, and although I don't envy you, you have a very exciting time ahead of you. In the end, it will truly work out.

Where do you find the online secondaries, neuro?

Does anyone know if MSTP also have rolling admissions? I heard from some of my classmates, who applied last year, that they found out about their MSTP acceptances a few month later then MD only applicants.

As far as secondaries are concerned, this is a good resource.

Many, if not most, MSTP and/or MD/PhD programs do have rolling admissions. Actually, in my experience, many MD/PhD applicants found out either soon after the interview (e.g. WashU, where you get a call on a Friday, exactly 1 week after the interview) or early in the season (e.g. UTSouthwestern, they let you know few days after the finalist weekend, in mid-January). Some schools, however, make sure you get a fair share of stress in the February-April period (e.g. Yale, non-rolling in late March, and UCSF, also non-rolling in mid-April).

I have found a couple of MSTP secondaries on-line already.

UPitt- http://www.mdphd.pitt.edu/admin/dept_app_form.asp
WashU- http://dbbs.wustl.edu/mstp/admissions/application/application.html

Hopkins, Yale, and Columbia have online MSTP sections as a part of their regular secondary.

Oh yeah, I sent AMCAS in June to 19 MD/PhD programs. 7 of those are on the West Coast (im a washington resident so hopefully my state school will come through for me).

If there are any other MSTP apps online, please add to the list.

I'm in with this cycle too. Silly non-AMCAS applications have yet to be completed though. Good luck to all, perhaps I will see some of you around.

AMCAS sent in for me, now the fun of columbia and secondaries!

I sent to a bunch of schools, but I expect to never send secondaries in for 4 or 5 of them, I just wanted the insurance policy, so to speak.

I sent in the AMCAS application about a month ago and am just waiting for secondaries. I applied to 12 schools but will probably be a bit more descriminate with secondaries, assuming I even get secondaries...

In case anyone is still looking for online secondaries, the following (in addition to those posted) can also be found on each school's website: UCLA, Einstein, Mt. Sinai...

I just recieved an email from Washington U saying they recieved my application and want me to fill out their secondaries, but I check today and my offical AMCAS site still says : "Your application and official transcripts have been received and are in line to begin the Verification process."
Dose anyone know why that is?

Me too, and AMCAS says they have yet to recieve my transcript!

I guess AMCAS sends out prelim applicant data to everyone - and then follows up with verified transcripts and whatnot...

and as for WUSTL, they probably just send a secondary to everyone, so they can pick up some $$$

I got an email from UCSD saying they got my app from AMCAS, but the AMCAS screen doesn't say it transmitted to that school yet. My guess is that AMCAS' website isn't exactly up-to-the-minute because of all the traffic going through it right around now...

Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Cincinnati also have secondaries available on-line.

A lot of schools (if not most) have their secondaries already up. Just go to their websites and search for them.
