Who's trying to start yet another MD vs DO flame war: The Troll
No, someone else suggested back in that other thread......

i think the question should be re-phrased to pple who are actually competitive for MD schools (ie 30+ MCAT) who are only applying to DO schools.

BTW, personal attacks are against the TOS. You might want to remember that before you go make insinuations.

this poll doesn't tell me much because a person can have a high gpa and a low mcat and apply to both. but if this person really wanted to apple for MD, they can just take the mcat again. however if they had both a low mcat and low gpa it would be more difficult for them to improve their stats and they would settle for applying to DO as well. so i think that for the poll to actually mean anything we need to have more options.

they would settle for applying to DO as well

It's not really "settling" unless you have mistaken opinions (not saying that you do) about osteopathic programs.....

i don't think i do. but it seems that most people who apply to both MD and DO would prefer an MD and would settle for DO school if rejected from all allopathic programs.

why would it seem that way? I'm applied to both DO and MD and guarantee that I'll choose DO no matter what happens

At least on SDN, (excluding those who choose DO over MD based on location) most people who say that they apply to both also say that they would prefer MD. I'm not saying everything and this is just my observation.

Anyway, I was just trying to say that this poll needs more options, otherwise it's useless. Even then, time and time again numerous applicants prove that stats aren't everything.

I agree that most people would choose that way, and I would do the same- assuming they were both in what I deemed to be comparably favorable locations. Now if the choice was between....say an MD school in NYC or UNECOM or KCOM, then I'd be choosing an osteopathic school.

In my book, MD <==> DO. They are effectively interchangable for all practical purposes. The only difference is that DO's, as a group, know how to give better backrubs.

That's not a personal attack, I'm just pointing out what you are doing. In case you haven't read the sticky, MD vs DO threads are against the TOS.

u didn't do the poll correctly. there's no DO only w/gpa > 3.5 AND MCAT > 30. the other thing DO only w/gpa <3.5 and/or MCAT <30 says the same exact thing. besides, gpa is so variable depending where u went to school. a 3.4 from UC berkeley speaks higher than a 3.6 from a 4th tier state school... pple w/low gpas but 30+ mcats (or even 28, 29) have the option to apply to both (realistically). someone w/a 4.0 and 23 MCAT knows they can only apply to DO (realistically).

I agree, the poll is not done correctly. I do not fit any categories. I am applying to both with a GPA of 3.89 and an MCAT score of 27R. I think this poll should be redone🙁
