I just wanted to get a feel of who's with me on applying to medical schools this summer for the entering class of 2004. I see so many threads where many of the applicants bond in their own way due to all of the *struggles* of the process. Through the primaries, secondaries, interviews, acceptances, holds, rejections...

I just thought it would be cool to *get to know* those who will be joining me for the ride.😛

It's gonna be a long road, but I think with a great (and addictive) website such as this one...heck, I might be able to make it through...😉

Post here if you're applying! Hope to hear from you🙂 .

Annie

😛 I'll be applying this June!!! Yeah the tensions starting to build up...MCATS and personal statement etc plus getting letter of recs. Hopefully I only have to apply once!!!!

hopefully i won't be joining y'all as a re-applicant. *show me some love, state schools!!* but best of luck to you guys!!!😀

PT Jay and maoeris,

Hopefully, we'll all only have to do this once! But regardless, I'm sure I'll be seeing alot more of you guys once the "journey" rolls around...🙂 I'm assuming you guys are taking your MCATs in April right? Good luck...I hope I'm not alone with the August ones.

Sweet Tea,

Best of luck to you! I sincerely hope you do get in! I'm sure you will as there is still time...Hope all goes well!

Anybody else applying for '04?

Count me in as this will be the third trip down the path to med school.

They say the third time is the charm....

wow, i was in the previous cycle and i have been reading about the current struggles...soon a new crop of applicants will be joining the fray.

are you guys sure you want to work your butt off?!?! 🙂

i think i'll recreate the AMCAS essay proofreading thread again this summer.

good luck people

hey all, im also one of the lucky (or not so lucky?hehe) people applying this fall. ive already asked my profs for LORs and have turned in my app to the premed committee in my school, which was a *itch and a half in itself! heheh?.see you guys around in the forums! 😉

I'm in for Fall 2004 also... pre-med committee interview next week over spring break, April MCAT, and hopefully some secondaries and interviews come fall. The next few months are going to be insanely busy. I'm looking forward to continuing my SDN addiction to keep me sane in this process 🙂

i'll be applying for the class of 2004 as well. good times ahead.

Hey guys & gals,
Ill be applying for the first time with yall this summer. Good luck with your MCATs and classes.

Im sure we'll be hearing from each other soon!

I cruise this site a lot but don't post because I don't know what the hell is going on and am learning as I go in this application process but I'll help you out as much as I can.
🙂eek: Oh my god!!! Where did my penis go??)
P.S. I thought this icon was funny and that was the first thing that popped itno my head when I saw it. I don't know what that says about me, either I have a small penis or just a strange sence of humor...or perhaps both?

i'm takin mcats this april and applying this summer, too
fun fun
good luck everyone!!!!

Hello Everyone!
Count me in for 2004! I am taking the MCAT in April, and hopefully that will be the only time I'l have to take it... 😛 Ugh.
That's great that everyone is coming together (Yeah, baby! Soon enough we'll take over pre-allo!! )
Let's keep the thread going!

I'll go ahead and throw my name in as well since I'm 50/50 on the idea. I'll be retaking the MCAT in augest and have the option either working next year or starting a MS (my advisors said that they would let me go if I did get accepted 🙂).

With Sweet tea - I am applying htis cycle, and hopefully not next one. But hey, you may see me again. Good luck - work hard guys!

Also part of the crew applying '04. Good luck to everyone taking the MCAT this april!

I am in a similar boat with XCanadianRagwee. This is my third crack at the mcat. But this will be my second time applying. I was waitlisted last year and hopefully I will do better on the mcat this year so I can be more competitive.

Good to all of us battling the wrath on the 26th....

i'm with xcanadian. here we go...... third time or bust. I WILL get in! 😎

Hey all, count me in for 2004 also. Be nice if we all get accepted. Well good luck to all and be talking to yall much more in the next year I imagine.
See ya

Hey Efex!

Count me in, too! I'll be tackling the MCAT in April.

Currently trying to track down all those LOR writers who promised to turn them in by early March.

Looking forward to sharing the laughs!(and tears?)

Hey,
I'm sort of a newbie, but I think this site is great. I'm taking the MCAT for the second time in April and will be applying for 2004. I've been stressed out ever since I've started thinking about the whole thing. It's cool to see that other people are going through the same process.

"May God have mercy on all of your poor souls"...

what my premed adviser should have said to all of us, two weeks ago, when we started winding up for the application process.

I hope we cry, laugh, and smile together guys! Class of 2004.

i guess my premed advisor was a little more thoughtful in showing us a homemade chart representing the projected emotional rollercoaster we'll be riding come fall. It basically looked like a sine curve. joy joy!

I noticed a lot of you guys are talking about getting your LORs ready. Jeez, I didn't think we needed to do that until after we apply. I mean, are you just getting people to write them or are you sending them out already (b4 you apply)?

Also, how do we know how many LORs we need?

2 from nonscience and science faculty.

That said, I think there is extreme leeway with adding more.. Just don't exceed 8.

After postponing it for 4 years, I've finally decided to apply this year. Good luck to everyone!! 🙂

By the way..I have a somewhat stupid question. Are we going to be filling out AMCAS 2003 or 2004? I ask because the AMCAS website has the forms for "entering class of 2002 and 2003"...but it doesn't make sense that they should have the 2002 form up there. But then again..it doesn't make sense that they should have the 2003 form up there either since deadlines have already passed.....

I feel like a loner with the August MCATs! Is there anyone else takin it in the summer???

efex101 and TheresaW!!! It's nice to see familiar "faces" or umm...names here...(MomMD aka Caligirl)...😀 See you there as well!

Ok, about the LOR's. How many are you getting and how long does the actual process take (from soliciting to obtaining the letters and having them sent out). I was planning on going to get them the next week or the week after. I'm getting letters from 3 science professors (2 bio, 1 ochem) and I'm going to *try* to solicit 2 from nonscience professors (history and business). We'll see how that goes. Also, I want to try and get at least 1 LOR from the university, but I only have next quarter to do so. The quarter ends June 12th. How fast can these professors get the LORs to you if you want to submit your application AT LEAST by mid July???

Who else is applying this summer? When are you taking your MCAT's and how many schools are you applying to?

I'm pretty sure that the application we fill out will be AMCAS 2004. It will be available on June 1. I guess they have the other ones up there so we can get an idea about what it will be like.

Back to the LORs, will different schools require a different amount of LORs of different types (science or nonscience, etc.). Or is it uniform? Also, do we send them in with primary or secondary applications or are they related at all? I seriously can't find any of this information or I wouldn't be asking.

I will be applying this summer. I haven't finalized the list of places that I'm applying to (sort of waiting to find of the April MCAT results), but I imagine I'll be applying to about 15-20 schools.

Hey gals (TheresaW and Caligirl) and guys! well about the LOR, I am really going to submit a small resume to all my LOR writers next week as well as the pre-med form (were they rank you). The 2004 AMCAS application should be up and running around April. So for those of you taking the August MCAT this will be the time to spend some time with the dreaded application. I am not even going to look at the application until I am done with the MCAT. Hopefully we will be able to submit in early June if everything goes right...
Oh, someone was asking about why LOR so soon, well, knowing professors and how busy and absent minded they can get, getting these LOR rolling early will prove beneficial when secondary time comes knocking on my door. If you take the april mcat secondaries should be rolling in around August. So if you have all your stuff ready then you fill it out and submit. If you have to wait around for a professor to fill one out at that time with a new semester starting etc, it could be october before he gets to it. Shoot by that time (oct 15) some schools are sending out acceptances! so to me waiting to get lors until I get the secondaries defeats the purpose of taking the april mcat in the first place; so all my stuff is ready to go ASAP...

Hello everyone!

Please add me to the list of 2004 Applicants. Good luck to everyone on the MCAT.

Sooner, you "usually" need two science lor's and one non-science lor, that is what most schools require. Certainly some people send more and that seems to be okay as long as you do not overdo it. My school sends a pre-med committee type letter which is really a synopsis of all the letters. So I am actually having about 8 letters sent to the pre-med advisor and then he can choose the three or four that will be best to submit. This is really not a bad idea if you know your pre-med advisor well and he/she then can pick those letters that better represent whom you are. Because many times we do not really know who good or bad these LOR writers are.

Count me in for the 2004 Application.

Been out of school for a while. I was a non-trad undergrad, so I'm definitely a non-trad med school applicant.

I'll be taking the August MCAT, there is no way in hell I'll be ready for the April test.

It'll be interesting to see how we all hold up during the process!

BTW, I'm a virgin poster. Decided to jump right in when I saw this thread.

hey guys- count me in as well... i'll be graduating from school in may, and applying this summer. it's gonna be fun, right?! (sense the sarcasm... hehehe). i too cannot wait until the MCAT is over!!!

i heard that it's not a good idea to take august mcat and apply in the same year because that would the application process.

so will those of you who decide to take august mcat apply this year?

if so, when would you submit the primary application? the first day of submission or after you're done with aug mcat?

Well, you can all add the Dumbest Premed to your list😎 . I'll be applying to the entering class of 2004. The whole application process is already underway for me. I've met with the premed committee and will be taking the april MCAT like a lot of you are. I am currently tracking down my LOR's(I will have the last 2 by monday) since I want it all to be ready for June. I'm getting 4 science(playing it safe...chem, bio, a&p, and orgo) and 2 nonscience(sociology and developmental psych) LOR's. Just can't wait for that MCAT to get over with...I'm taking practice exams like crazy.

Good luck to you all and I'll be looking forward to hearing from you during this process that we are beginning to undertake.
😉

Hey all. Count me in too - I'll be applying over the summer. I took the MCAT last August to get it out of the way, but good luck to everyone in April. 🙂 Talk soon...

Hello ALLL!

I'm on board to take the April 2003 MCAT. And yes, I'll be applying for entrance in 2004. We'll all hear and learn a lot from each other!

Good luck to you guys!

Hello I will be applying in June. Feeling a swirl of anxiety-energy-anticipation as the starting line becomes visible....Finally!

Just wondering how many schools are you applying?

Someone had asked about whether we (August MCATers) should submit our applications in early June or after we get our scores...I have heard and have read that we should send in our primary applications as early as possible. Absolutely everything should be ready so that the only thing the adcoms need to wait for is your scores for the exam. I have already "met" quite a few who have gotten interviews and acceptances from taking the August MCAT's. I do definitely think it would slow down your process but it is not a good idea to take it when you feel you are not ready...

As for applying to schools, I think I might apply to 15-20...I just want to get this whole thing over with. I'm getting more nervous by the day. So much to do over spring break.

Anybody else applyin???🙂

Hey all...

I'm applying for the fall 2004. Looking forward to tackling this arduous process with the bunch of you. It feels great knowing that there are people out there about to go through the same thing you are. My application started slow, but things are beginning to pick up. Spent spring break catching up on all me classes so that I can maximise me time on applying.

Anyway, I wish everyone the best of luck and hope all goes as planned!

Count me in as well. I can already feel the knots in my stomach starting to turn.
I'm kind of applying from abroad and won't be back in june. Do any of you know when the 2004 amcas might be up? It's spring break here, so I kind of wanted to hit the ground running.

Hello again!
Ok, a few questions in regards to the LORs: Is there a specific format? I've already asked a few people to consider writing a letter for me, but I'm not sure if AMCAS gives you a specific format (or maximum number of words, I don't know!) for that. Does anyone know?
Also, I'm in graduate school and the people who know me best as a student, researcher AND a person are all science profs. I certainly could get a letter from a non-science person, however it won't be as "passionate"... In that case will it be bad for me to just send letters from science profs (one is a PhD, the other an MD-PhD and the other an MD). Also, I'm only sending three letters (I think they will be really good and these three people together will be able to write letters that are very representative of who I am). Is this a problem?
Thanks all!!

There really is no specific format (amcas never sees these letters) although what each school may require could be a little different. From my understanding most schools usually require two science professors and one non-science, some schools prefer or highly suggest that you send the pre-med commitee letter versus individual letters. Of course some folks do not have a pre-med commitee and others are in grad school or non-trad so this is waived (I am assuming here) for these guys. Because I have a pre-med commitee I am getting more letters and letting the pre-med advisor whom knows me quite well, pick those that best represent me as a person/student/potential med school applicant. Of course all letters are "technically" supposed to be confidential, even when you interview the interveiwer is not supposed to let you see what X or Y wrote about you. I just read this last part on the AAMC web page somewhere. So to be safe just try to avoid reading the letters even if they just give them to you.

when i got my LORs, i had to fill out forms saying the letters were confidential. if your school has a committee letter system, i'm sure you'll have to fill one out too, of course that does not mean that your advisor won't read them. mine were looked over and typos were identified, so that was good!
