Who's going to RUSH in the fall?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm still deciding between Rush and University of Miami. I'll be up in Chicago later this week and plan on revisiting Rush. I think I'm going to revisit Miami next week and make my decision after that. I really enjoyed my first visit to Chicago, but it's sooo cold. Great city though... lots of blues clubs and other things to do (assuming that we have any time). Miami has South beach... I'm torn!! How are you weighing the options of Cincy or Rush?🙂

I love Rush, but that doesnt seem like much of a choice. I would chose Miami in a heartbeat over Rush. Have you compared the match lists?

Not me, fraternities aren't my thing... 😉

i think im gonna choose rush over cincy. i mean, sure, cincy is ranked and rush isn't but it's not like im choosing between rush and harvard. therefore, how well u do in terms of residency matches comes mostly on the individual and how u do in ur medschool years. i mean yea school rep matters but like i said im not choosing between rush and harvard. so with that said, i've compared rank lists and they're basically similar. so the only deciding factor would be location and i think chicago is a much better place and the atmosphere of the school is much nicer than cincy. 😛

gl with ur decisions 😎

I'm going to RUSH!!!

I LOVE Rush! I'm the poster boy! I already told Kerry that I'll do all the interview tours for her. See you in September!

Has anyone figured out where they are going to live? Is anyone living in the suburbs if they are originally from there?

I'm living in the suburbs! Bought a house less than a year ago. I plan on commuting in every day either through driving or via the train. Shouldn't be a problem.

hey guys, congrats on your acceptance to Rush! i'm a applicant this year and I'm thinking about Rush. could some of you post your stats and what made you choose the school so i can see if i have a reasonable chance to get into the school. thanks!

For those accepted to Rush (especially from the WL): have you received a financial aid award yet? About how long has it taken from the time you submitted all of your forms?? I submitted mine in May before I was accepted so I hope to get something soon!

How long is your commute? I am looking at apartments that are like 17miles from Rush...mapquest says it should take like 25 minutes to drive it but we'll see!

what made you choose rush over other schools in chicago like loyola?

I'm trying to solidify my decision of whether to choose rush or loyola?

Well, honestly I did not receive an interview at Loyola. I picked Rush over CMS, SIU, and UIC. There are other threads on SDN that would be able to help you out more than I can. I chose Rush over these three b/c of its location and clinical exposure as well as the overall feeling I had when I was there (seems like students are really happy and well prepared). From what I've heard Loyola is a lot like Rush in that aspect and they may carry a better name (??) if that is a concern to you. I don't really know much about Loyola though, sorry! I am very happy with my decision and truly feel that Rush is a great place to learn and to be...good luck with your decision.🙂

Hello,

I live 11 miles from Rush and it takes me a whole lot longer than 25 minutes to get there in the morning. Try more like 40. I'm considering living on campus to save that valuable time.

I was not accepted to Loyola, but I did have the same decision to make with Rush and UIC. I picked rush because I felt that it prepared it's students well and in an environment I was comfortalbe in. I don't know if I agree that Loyola has a better reputation than Rush. I feel like UIC, Rush and Loyola are all in the same "playing field." I do know people that got spots @ Northwestern, Loyola, SIU, MCW etc and choose rush over all of them. You should go take a second look at the classes. I know Loyola has blocks, personally it would drive me nuts to do nothing but Anatomy for 6 weeks. At Rush you see many classes at once, some might consider that harder, but I think it helps you learn better. I mean you get to see the kidney in anatomy lab, then you have a lecture about Renal function in Physio, and then you get to see the nephron in Histo (ideally this is how it should happen). That seems more intergravtive and might help you more for the boards. That's what it's all about BOARDS!
Just my two cents!
Good luck either way!

Anyone get any orientation info yet? I haven't been in touch with them for a while but I will be in Chicago next week looking at apartments. I'm going to make sure my fin aid is in order while I'm there!

I was wondering if any of you are still looking for a place to live? I have looked at studios and 1 bedrooms around chicago but think that they are just tooo small! Anyone interested in looking for apartments? I have been looking around oldtown/goldcoast/lincoln park area but could be swayed otherwise.

Hi everyone,
I was at Rush yesterday and the orientation materials should be in the mail today!!! According to the new updated website M1 orientation starts on Sept 3. Can't wait!

Did you find this under the academic calendar link? The only calendar I've found still says Sept. 2nd. Well, I'm sure they put the right info in our orientation packets....at least I hope so! I am so excited to finally get some info! See you all soon.
Jessica

Ok, i found the other calendar...it is probably more likely to be correct. Thanks for the info.

I am so happy to hear that Rush had sent out the orientation info. today. I look forward to meet your guys very soon.

Anyone check out the rmstudents.com website yet? The M1 survival guide is a pretty good read. I just wish it was after 8/15 so we could see more orientation info!

count me in!

i was originally choosing between Rush and UIC, but for reasons similar to many others, decided that Rush was a better fit for me.

anyway, hope you all had a great summer and i'm really looking forward to meeting everyone - see you in a couple weeks!

looking forward to meeting u guys!

just got the orientation letter - seeing as how everything starts in the middle of the week, would any of you be interested in meeting up one night before it all begins?? a sort of pre-orientation orientation?! 😉 maybe i'm getting a little too excited, but i figured it couldn't hurt to throw the idea out... come on, it could be fun!

it's finally starting to sink in... 😀

Hello all,
Hey kathleeya did you get a new orientaion letter with specific activities or did you get the big packet with website information? The only thing I have received is the big packet. They said AUG 15 for info on website, but alas none 🙁
If anyone has seen the orientation materials online please post web address. I cannot find it anywhere on Rush's or RMStudents websites!
As per getting together early I'm up for it!
Ciao,
Michael

Congrats to all you Rush c/o 2007's!

Tell me, how are the financial packages at Rush? Specifically, how much do you get for living expenses? Are you living off campus? If so, where?

no, i didn't get a packet with a specific itinerary - and am anxious for the info to come up on the website. the survival guide on rmstudents.com was pretty helpful, though, and gives a small taste of what to expect during orientation!

alright - so far, we've got a pre-orientation orientation party of 2... any more of you interested?! speak up! 😛

im down for a pre-orientation party as well. that makes 3

Dear Member of the Entering Class of 2003,

We hope that you are enjoying the summer prior to your matriculation at
Rush Medical College this fall. We are very excited that you have chosen
to attend Rush and look forward to working with you throughout your
medical education.

The Office of Medical Student Programs has been working hard this summer
planning your orientation, which begins on Wednesday, September 3rd and
concludes on Friday, September 5th with the White Coat Ceremony. The
White Coat Ceremony is one of the oldest traditions at Rush and has been
a part of our orientation program for almost 30 years. In fact, Rush was
one of the first medical schools in the country to hold a ceremony of
this type for incoming students.

This White Coat Ceremony marks the beginning of your professional medical
education and therefore we would like to invite you to share this
experience with your family and significant others. The Ceremony will be
immediately followed by a reception for the members of the 2003 entering
class and their guests. To ensure that we arrange for adequate seating,
we ask that you RSVP to Jan Schmidt, Director of Admissions, at the
following email address: [email protected] indicating the number of
guests who will attend.
