Thought this would be a way...to potentially meet future classmates!
Well, I'm going and def excited to start in the fall!!
Any idea when classes start? and when the white coat ceremony is??

Orientation is on Aug 14 & 15 and classes start on Aug 18.

White Coat is sometime in March or April.

I am going! its gonna be sweet. where are you guys from. my best bud from UCSD is going as well.

Class of 2009. Sorry, just thought I'd share some info. If you guys have any other Q's about the school you can PM if you want.

Thanks!
I am really excited for school to start...Dr. Tran and Dr. Stamps sent me a really nice e-mail congratulating me! I thought that was nice of them 🙂

Hey DrNdogg, how's the on-campus housing?? Did you ever live in campus? What about transportation during your second year??

I'm glad you're excited.

On-campus housing is pretty good. The rooms are decent size, free laundry, community kitchen. It's a health profession campus, so no crazy, out-of-hand parties. BSNs, OTs, and PTs live in the dorm as well. Once in a while there'll be a "social get together" in the dorm. I lived in the dorms 1st and 2nd year. I live in SF now since most of our clinics are on this side of the bridge.

I have heard that they are going to completely overhaul the campus with new buildings, but it's in the planning stages right now, and it's supposed to include the dorms. So you might be better served asking Dr. Tran about the dorms.

For 2nd year clinicals, you can get around with public transportation but it makes it a lot easier of you have a car or, I'm sure some of your classmates will have cars and you can carpool with them. There are a couple of clinics in SF during 2nd year so you will have to cross the bridge a few times.

I will be going.

No crazy out of hand parties but what abt the safety? i heard CSPM is located in Oakland which is having very high crime rate. Is this true or just myths?

how old is everyone and where is everyone from?

Did you guys get the email from Anne Seed?

Looks like the school's probation status has been lifted and it's ready to go through 2010! 😀

Ya I got the email too......it's nice to know that the probation is lifted. 👍

I'm going.
Pending MCAT scores
I'm commuting from Martinez, about 16 miles, unless I can convince my wife to move to Oakland.
Crime in O town is not that bad unless you are a victim.😉
THere are areas in and near Oakland that are really nice. And then there are other areas that aren't. I have 2 guys in my complex that go to school there right now. If anyone wants to move in over here (1000/ mo) 2bd 1ba, lemme know, we could carpool, or tandem bike or something to BART.

Also, FYI, there is a facebook group for class of 2012, I am in it

At the present moment I think I'll be staying at the dorms for the 1st year to save some $$$.....I guess I might have to get a facebook account to join the 2012 CSPM crew.......Also, good luck on your MCAT scores.

Anyone know the fate of housing/dorms at Samuel Merritt? From what I heard, the ones on campus are getting torn down and they are buying out an off-campus apartment complex. Let me know what you'all heard.

Thanks

Has anyone visited cali, temple and NYCPm? can anyone say which of these three neighborhoods seemed most dangerous? I'm not talking about the looks...but safe? They seem to be the most urban schools. i think an urban ed is the best, so I want to be in a city, but personally, Oakland sounds scarier than Philly/NYC. Any thoughts?

No Oakland is pretty safe. I mean if you go running around at night then yea but in the day time you shouldn't have any problems. I went to temple interview I thought it wasn't as safe, my personal opinion. New York is in the ghetto, so I'd say that's the least safe.

I felt that the location of CSPM was not in that bad of an area (as opposed to what everyone on the interview feedback say, which is bs). Oakland itself is not very safe but CSPM is not in the heart/downtown area at all. The school is pretty much part of a complex of hospitals/healthcare offices. There is a dormitory on campus and the school provides a shuttle bus to the local BART station (regional rail to San Fran, Berkeley, etc).

NYCPM - located a street away from the main avenue in Harlem (near the famous Apollo Theatre) and literally right next to both subway + regional rail station. Area seems kinda run down but Harlem has been building up and improving a lot these past few years. I believe most people assume NYCPM is in midtown manhatten/Greenwich village/etc and are very disappointed once they arrive at the school. It is in Manhatten, just not a touristy area. No living options on campus...either in the Bronx or in a "box" at Metropolitan Hospital. The housing at Metro hospital has a free shuttle to and from the school.

Temple - right across the street from one of philly's police departments. I felt the area was not bad at all and walking distance from pretty famous landmarks (Independence Mall, US mint, etc). I would MUCH rather be in center city (temple podiatry campus) as opposed to the medical/dental campus in North Philly. That is like comparing apples to oranges. There is a fully furnished apartment complex on the podiatry campus.

I'm headed to CSPM! I'm really excited
