Look at my schedule for my first semester of second year :

BIO 255 Medical Microbiology (with Laboratory)
CHE 231 Organic Chemistry I (with Laboratory)
MAT 152 Calculus II
PHY 270 Foundations of Physics I (with Laboratory)
MAT 261 Statistics
Elective
PSB 220 Introduction to Health Care Delivery


Am I the only one that finds this ridiculous??

It looks tough but is pretty much on par with what you'll see in pharmacy school. It's definitely harder to fit in extracurriculars, work,etc. with that kind of course load...which is probably one of the many reasons pre-pharm students are choosing to complete a BS first.

I mean come on... physics (sophomore year), Calculus 2 (multivariable) AND 3 (differential equations) freshman yr... No one said Pharm school was going to be a "cake walk," unless you ask those med. kids.

if you are at MCPHS then you are screwed. I understand now why many students fail before they reach their first professional year at this institution. I don't know about the others, but I thought calculus2, orgo1, and physics are the hardest courses in undergrad. I consider myself lucky for not taking them in the same semester. If you want to succeed then you should spend every minute studying and sleep no more than 5 hours in exam week. I am sure it is doable if you have excellent time management skills.

Obviously 0-6 programs are challenging academically. But who says going to pharmacy school is easy? I was accepted to a 0-6 program four years ago and I opted not to go because I decided that at 18 years old, I wasn't mature enough to handle that kind of class load. I'm not saying that you aren't mature enough.. I'm just explaining my logic for not going. I'm sure you can do it. Good luck!

Honestly, I don't think that you're taking an unreasonable schedule at all. Most of my semesters, if not all, looked like that during undergrad. (B.A. Chemistry, with minors in Biology and French Literature) Besides, on this website, most of us are overachievers so I wouldn't expect to find a great deal of sympathy. 😀

Good luck with your classes, I'm sure that you can handle the workload!

Regardless, it's put up or shut up time, pal. Anything worthwhile requires hard work; becoming a pharmacist is no exception. And just remember, there are more than a handful of folks who can take that seat if you stumble. So hit the books and hit them hard.

Agreed, the big thing is they take high schoolers who almost all of which have never worked in a pharmacy before to see if it truly fits what they want to do in life, or what they thought pharmacy was. Also I can't imagine the mentality of simply needing to pass all of your courses to stay in pharmacy school. Good grades should be required, atleast for the first two years.

It's very typical for undergrads that want a degree in Biology or Chemistry. Your schedule is the norm for any UNDERGRAD that is majoring in science! LOL...I graduated with a degree in chemistry and my schedule always look like that. (Actually WORST since I had to take Physical Chemistry!)

They are. My school has a GPA requirement; if you don't satisfy it by the end of second year, you get thrown out.

I completely agree. I wasn't looking for anyone's pity; I just came across the curriculum on my school's website and was surprised at how difficult it looked.

If I apply to Midwestern Glendale there's an Osteopathic AND Dental school right next door... but idk if I want to marry a D.O. 😛

If you're 28 you'll still have a good chance, most guys that go to med school don't have time for a relationship until they're out @ 30 so you'll be young in their eyes. Plus with Botox and face peals ANYONE can look 10 years younger... thank god! Can't wait to be 30 and look 20 😛

The ones that have time to mess around aren't usually the top students getting into Ortho or Surgery residencies...so we wouldn't be interested anyways! C student = general practice 👎

It's kinda like saying you'd pick a guy you hate who is a rich doctor, but you won't marry a pharmacist if he makes any less than you do. I know you might mean something different, but that's what it looks like right now.

I'm not one to get played. So if I'm making 50k I expect a guy to be earning the same. B/c if we get divorced I'm not supporting HIM and giving him alimony checks every month...hell naw. With equality either spouse doesn't risk anything. If he makes 50k and I make 50k we're not equal.... he should be earning more. Now if he makes 67-68k and I make 50k, think of the salary inequalities. Women make only 75.5 cents for every dollar that men earn- so we're equal now. 😎

Agreed. I wish I had researched 0-6 programs back in HS, although I'm not sure I would have been ready for the curriculum at the time.
