Look at my schedule for my first semester of second year :scared::

BIO 255 Medical Microbiology (with Laboratory)
CHE 231 Organic Chemistry I (with Laboratory)
MAT 152 Calculus II
PHY 270 Foundations of Physics I (with Laboratory)
MAT 261 Statistics
Elective
PSB 220 Introduction to Health Care Delivery

Am I the only one that finds this ridiculous??

It looks tough but is pretty much on par with what you'll see in pharmacy school. It's definitely harder to fit in extracurriculars, work, etc. with that kind of course load...which is probably one of the many reasons pre-pharm students are choosing to complete a BS first.

If physics wasnt in the mix Id say it wasnt anything to worry about. but that isnt the case. wow, thats a heavy load, good luck broseph.

not that I don't have empathy, but that schedule does look like a typical schedule for MANY undergrad's too...

I can say that my schedule was as hard or much harder when I was doing my undergrad years ago.

I mean come on... physics (sophomore year), Calculus 2 (multivariable) AND 3 (differential equations) freshman yr... No one said Pharm school was going to be a "cake walk," unless you ask those med. kids.

I'll tell you what's scary.

Physical Chemistry + Lab
Analytical Chemistry + Lab :scared:
Graduate Level Immunology 🙁
Biochemistry II 😡
Graduate Level Macromolecular Chemistry :meanie:
Ballroom dancing 😱

That was the 1st semester of my junior year (18 hrs).

looks like my schedule from undergrad, not bad at all

if you are at MCPHS then you are screwed. I understand now why many students fail before they reach their first professional year at this institution. I don't know about the others, but I thought calculus2, orgo1, and physics are the hardest courses in undergrad. I consider myself lucky for not taking them in the same semester. If you want to succeed then you should spend every minute studying and sleep no more than 5 hours in exam week. I am sure it is doable if you have excellent time management skills.

Obviously 0-6 programs are challenging academically. But who says going to pharmacy school is easy? I was accepted to a 0-6 program four years ago and I opted not to go because I decided that at 18 years old, I wasn't mature enough to handle that kind of class load. I'm not saying that you aren't mature enough.. I'm just explaining my logic for not going. I'm sure you can do it. Good luck!

Honestly, I don't think that you're taking an unreasonable schedule at all. Most of my semesters, if not all, looked like that during undergrad. (B.A. Chemistry, with minors in Biology and French Literature) Besides, on this website, most of us are overachievers so I wouldn't expect to find a great deal of sympathy. 😀

Good luck with your classes, I'm sure that you can handle the workload!

Is there any chance to take the elective during the summer to lighten your load?

Regardless, it's put up or shut up time, pal. Anything worthwhile requires hard work; becoming a pharmacist is no exception. And just remember, there are more than a handful of folks who can take that seat if you stumble. So hit the books and hit them hard.

3 sciences and 2 math...a lil too much...drop 1 and add economics or history

I realize that I won't be the first to have a schedule that tough, but I wouldn't necessarily say that it's typical for undergrads. Not many of them are trying to cram all of their pre-reqs into four semesters.

0-6 programs suck because they take HS students without seeing how they perform at a college level. There simply isn't a need for them when many qualified college candidates have completed the prereqs/BA/BS/ and work experience.

Gotta love Ballroom dancing!

5 upper division science classes = insanity!! (Pharmacy school should be cake for you then)

Agreed, the big thing is they take high schoolers who almost all of which have never worked in a pharmacy before to see if it truly fits what they want to do in life, or what they thought pharmacy was. Also I can't imagine the mentality of simply needing to pass all of your courses to stay in pharmacy school. Good grades should be required, atleast for the first two years.

It's very typical for undergrads that want a degree in Biology or Chemistry. Your schedule is the norm for any UNDERGRAD that is majoring in science! LOL...I graduated with a degree in chemistry and my schedule always look like that. (Actually WORST since I had to take Physical Chemistry!)

Well, 0-6 is actually good for the people in it b/c they can actually graduate and still be YOUNG when they get out! What's HOT? a 22 year old PharmD! 😉

The ballroom dancing is the only thing that kept me sane after all the upper division pounding  (that's what she said!!!)

They are. My school has a GPA requirement; if you don't satisfy it by the end of second year, you get thrown out.

Would you rather be studying for the PCATs while scrambling to get all your prereqs in while space runs out AND applying to schools AND interviewingn afterwards AND stressing out about acceptances? Seems like more effort than a little extra coursework.

I completely agree. I wasn't looking for anyone's pity; I just came across the curriculum on my school's website and was surprised at how difficult it looked.

better yet, PharmD's w/2 year residencies who are your professors, pulling in six figures.... at age 26.

Better yet...24 year old PharmD entering the VA system or government work. You can retire at 44 w/ 50% pension. Imagine that.. 44 and you get paid $50k to sit at home if you want...go work retail and double dip, you'll be making close to $200k.

In your case, that's if he graduated from high school at 16 years old.

I know one pharmacist at school who went to a 6-year school and she graduated when she was 24 I think.

I would personally get bored sitting at home. Wouldn't you miss seeing your patients? I know I might if I developed any relationships with them from having them come in more than once.

I work with 24 year old pharmacists. The youngest ones become pharmacists at 23 years old. No joke!!

I DIDDDD!
That's gonna be me.... 22/23 and a pharmD... 😎

You're gonna have people saying "you look too young to be a pharmacist."

At my school, some of the cafeteria ladies and some doctors say that they think I look too young to be in pharmacy school

it must be that cute widdle baby face.

some people ask what grade i'm in and think i'm in middle school........ they're shocked to hear i'm in college lol
i think it may be my height/weight ratio that gives off the middle school vibe

50K to sit at home + marry an MD = Dream come true! 🙂
marry an orthopedic surgeon... and use that 50k to play with. my ortho husband making 200K plus a yr can take care of everything else 😀

👍

And YOUR chances are better than mine b/c you will be YOUNGER when you graduate. I will be 28 when I get my PharmD so my chances are a lot more slim. 🙄 Good Luck at school this fall, hopfully the Med school is right next door!

If I apply to Midwestern Glendale there's an Osteopathic AND Dental school right next door... but idk if I want to marry a D.O. 😛

If you're 28 you'll still have a good chance, most guys that go to med school don't have time for a relationship until they're out @ 30 so you'll be young in their eyes. Plus with Botox and face peals ANYONE can look 10 years younger... thank god! Can't wait to be 30 and look 20 😛

Only true for some students.

GREAT!!!!! Dental school nearby = increase potential in marrying an Orthodontist! 👍 LOL...

And YES Botox is a woman's BEST friend!!! 😀

The ones that have time to mess around aren't usually the top students getting into Ortho or Surgery residencies...so we wouldn't be interested anyways! C student = general practice 👎

Geez. Sounds like you care too much about money

Marrying the person you love should be far more important than marrying someone rich. That marriage wouldn't go so well

Maybe it might, but my guess is that it wouldn't. But as a pharmacist, SHC should be making enough money, unless she gets greedy and wants like a million dollars per year

Ain't nothing wrong with wanting to marry up (or rich).......

Money can't but love, but it can buy diamonds!

That's true, but that's like taking your chances at being unhappy or frustrated just because you want money. That's like working at a job you hate just because of really good pay

But if you marry rich and it doesn't work out, she can keep a lot of the money after the divorce! She just needs to make sure that the husband doesn't think of a prenup.

yeah that's very much true. but what i was saying wasn't that i'd be unhappy, i was just planning on marry a doctor or dentist..... idc if they make 100k or whatever; just as long as they pull their weight and don't make less than me 🙂

any guy springs a pre-nup on me we're donezo.

My wife and I have a pre-nup. Hasn't really affected our marriage at all in either a positive or negative way, and we're way past the average 1st marriage length. LOL.

Since when do people worry way too much about money?

It's kinda like saying you'd pick a guy you hate who is a rich doctor, but you won't marry a pharmacist if he makes any less than you do. I know you might mean something different, but that's what it looks like right now.

What I'm saying is I don't want NO SCRUBS.

I'm not one to get played. So if I'm making 50k I expect a guy to be earning the same. B/c if we get divorced I'm not supporting HIM and giving him alimony checks every month...hell naw. With equality either spouse doesn't risk anything. If he makes 50k and I make 50k we're not equal.... he should be earning more. Now if he makes 67-68k and I make 50k, think of the salary inequalities. Women make only 75.5 cents for every dollar that men earn- so we're equal now. 😎

Agreed. I wish I had researched 0-6 programs back in HS, although I'm not sure I would have been ready for the curriculum at the time.

Anyways sorry to interrupt the discussion about gold digging, carry on.
