Why am I receiving a secondary already?

I submitted my AMCAS application a week ago, and it obviously hasn't been verified yet. Today however, I just received a secondary application from New York Medical College. How are they already sending me a secondary if they haven't received a verified primary application yet?

Schools know you applied to them when you submit the AMCAS and get your contact information, so they can send you secondaries before it is verified. Of course they won't look at your application until it is verified and fully submitted to them though.

You should be writing as many secondaries as you can by looking at the prompts in the school specific threads, people have posted this year's for most schools. This way you will be able to submit them ASAP because time is of the essence.

wow, so for all they know I could have a 2.0 GPA and they'd still send a secondary and happily take my money... makes sense I guess.

My learned colleague has to read apps that come from people with single digit MCAT scores (not in one category...the entire exam!) so yes, some schools will send secondaries out to the unqualified.

I like to think of them as a tax on the hopelessly optimistic or pathologically clueless. However, yanks, from what I remember about your stats, you at least merit a secondary because your chances are good at NYMC.
