I have noticed that in my 3.5 years of college so far I have yet to be an A student. the highest my gpa has ever been is 3.34 and the lowest is 3.21, and I seem to hover in this area all the time. And it's not like I struggle all year in my classes. In most classes I am right at the borderline A/B area, then I get a final exam and I completely bomb it, or I get like 5 points less than what I need for an A. I wish I were smarter. Hahah i don't have an upward or downward trend, I'm just consistently dumb.

Maybe its a self-fulfilling prophecy. Try thinking that you're really smart for a while, and see how you do.

Haha. Thanks. I really don't think I'm stupid, it just seems that every time I close to getting an A I blow it one way or another. Maybe premed office at UM is plotting a conspiracy against me since I decided not to use their letter???

I doubt I would have the GPA I do ( A student) if I had a job.

I always found that having a job made me a better student. When I'm really busy, I make better use of my time.

first thing I'm doing with my doctor's salary is to start a college fund so my kids don't end up tired college students like me lol. I do have a question tho:

if i have a 2.95 bcpm with 55 credits or so, and I take a 1 cred and get an A and a 4 credit class and get a B, would that pull me up to above a 3.0?

No.

No, it would bring you up to about 2.97. But if you got an A in the 4 hr class, it would bring you up to about 3.03-3.04.

I agree with triathelete about the whole job thing, I work 20-30 hours a week on-top of 16 hours of classes and I hold a 4.0 even with difficult sciences.

Well i'm completely the opposite. I work 40 hours a week and am taking 18 credits, and by the end of the semester I'm just exhausted. I wish i were like you A students working and going to school full time.

Its proven that trying to do critical thinking while exhausted or fatigued is very difficult. I would safely assume that you would be a 3.8 student if you used the time you spend at work now studying for those exams.

My roommate and I had a similar situation as you. We were both on the premed track and both had an option: take on lots of loans and do well in school, or work a lot to have little loans and lower grades. I personally split the difference and just worked 15 hrs a week to take the edge off, while he put in at least 30 minimum. Moral of the story: I've been accepted to medical school, he has since dropped being pre-med, and is finishing up his super senior year as a history major, but with only $3000 in loans he owes back. Im not saying it cant be done, Im just saying that sometimes that running the risk of debt can be worth it. Dont be afraid to give up something good for the chance at something great 😉

That's sounds an awful lot like me my first 3 years. My lowest GPA ever was a 3.23 and the highest a 3.41. And I was just constantly hovering in that zone. Then my senior year I loaded my classes every quarter so I was taking six 400 level classes. I was really stressed but I did better than I'd ever done before getting 3.5-4.0 in all my classes. I was amazed, apparently the more difficult and time crunched I am the better I can do.

Getting good grades has little to do with being smart. I know plenty of people who pulled 4.0s and were dumb as rocks, they just had ridiculous work ethics.

I'm not saying you don't have a good work ethic, I'm sure you do. I'm just saying you're not dumb.
