Why are Class of 2015 pre-meds changing their status to "Medical Student"?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Relieved MS-0 =/= Status: Medical Student

MS-0 means accepted to med school

Status: Medical Student means currently studying medicine

dat dere bro rape

It happens every year. When I was born, I set my status as MS with a negative value.

Actually to me, MS-0 signifies overambitious, neurotic premed.

Who cares what a poster's status is? (other than maybe knowing who is an adcom or not)

As long as they don't start off, "well as a med student..." then I really don't think it matters at all.

lol not to bash, is it really necessary to even write MS0. Some people changed their status to medical student b/c they were accepted even though they haven't started school yet. I'm cool w/ that part.

it's not even necessary to have a status, so no

If someone says to you, "I'm a medical student", you assume they are currently in medical school (MS1-4). However, no one tells non-med people "I'm a MS#", that terminology is only for medical/health professions personnel... every premed knows that MS-0 means accepted but has not started school yet. You're not a true 'medical student' until you start studying medicine

i got the opposite problem. I think im going to leave pre-med even after i start school.... i have a problem with letting go.

Clever.

That's probably news to many people on this site. It's clear that many people put MS-0 on their profile even if they have years before they even apply. To me, that assumption of being a future med student is worse than someone who has actually been accepted to school changing their status to medical student.

But the real point to my post was that labels on this website really don't matter much.

Some people got over-excited. They are going to be med students after all. Cut them some slack.

sigh...

I think the massive amount of irony in this thread is completely lost on the OP.

Shame really.

I couldn't agree more

So you have a problem with people fudging the fact that they aren't quite medical students yet (despite that they've been accepted), but you have no problems deliberately changing the words of a person's post when you quote them? Interesting.

Strong desire to change status to resident and PGY0 😉

I make my own rules because I'm one bad mother****er

Do we really need a thread on this every year?

Employ juuuuust a little creativity. That's all I'm asking.

Because you touch yourself at night:nono:

People are excited...let them be excited. It will wear off soon enough, probably start trending down after White Coat Ceremonies and finish dropping when studying for their first test.

After that its all downhill...let them enjoy their happiness now.

It happens every year. It annoyed me last year because people who were still pre-meds were giving out advice as if they were med students, but as an MS-1, the only contribution I can really make to these sorts of discussions is based on the whole of the application process, and since I did that twice, I could do that even as a pre-med.

So whatever. Let them be happy.

Who cares.
Dude, come on. Really?

You need a question mark at the end there, not a period. 😎😛

Because they're excited!

Oh wait, I was tricked by the thread title. You mean you really just are pissy about something stupid and are not, in fact, asking a question? You fooled me!

So, what do people from Texas AM put? MS 0 or -1 ?

ZING!

I meant specifically in an email signature...that's just too far

lol I was talking about e-mail signatures.... the first week of classes during my SMP last year, a girl sent out a mass e-mail to like 100 people with the candidate signature

Who cares? If you don't like something, then just ignore it. You must lack some common sense.

How did I miss this thread all day?!? 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁

Thx for the epic lulz all of ya...
