why are the numbers for UCSF lower than

GTFO my SDN. Don't badmouth UCSF while I'm around.

lower than its actual quality?

It is supposed to be a top 2 dental school - so how come the numbers speak differently?

What numbers are you referring to? What is the specific issue are you talking about?

What numbers are you referring to?

I'm guessing the OP is referring to GPA and DAT averages of their accepted students, and why those don’t rank in the top 2 for all schools.

UCSF, much like many other schools, look at the overall package of an applicant. The numbers only get you so far. Thus, sometimes an applicant with a slightly lower GPA or DAT score will get in while a person with superior numbers won't, because the former applicant volunteered at a third world country as a dental aid or something to that effect.

I went to a dental conference at UCSF and the dental student who gave the tour had a 3.1 GPA. I don't think GPAs (maybe DAT scores) are very representative of the students they accept in my opinion...but that's just my perspective.

what do you mean by top 2?? i believe UCSF is #2 for research funding, if that's what you're talking about. if it is, then UMich is #1. UMich certainly doesn't have the highest enrollee stats. that title belongs to harvard.

more research funding doesn't guarantee higher incoming stats. there is NOT a direct correlation.

this post is meaningless.

Hey Jack, aside from your first avatar, are the other two really you?

hysteria, is that really you in your avatar? 😀

Nope… That is Mike Ricci.

He’s a hockey player that is pretty famous for, aside from his play on the ice, missing all of his front teeth. It’s hard to see in that dark pic. In 1997 he was also voted Denver’s sexiest athlete. I could never understand that one.

Actually, UCSF is #1 in research $ and are so by a long shot and have been for many years. Let me also say that little nugget doesn't really matter too much to me as lowly D2.

To the OP: D-Schools are not ranked like other schools so get off that wagon. Just go to the school you like. If you havn't interviewed yet, believe me, schools give off auras...big time! Pick one that matches your zodiac sign or your chi or sumpn and just roll with it!!!

Peace out!
