Why is it called an Army Navy?

Any other interesting triva regarding surgical instruments or OR gear?

I was taught that it was developed during WWII at the Walter Reed Army hospital, I have no idea if it is true or not. It was in some lecture notes, not in a book.

And remember deep end is the navy end.

The way I remember it is, "the Army always gets the short end of the stick."
