I have my first interview at IUSD on Monday (yikes!). I was just thinking about this basic question and realized that I dont really have a good answer...here's my story:
I was born in India and lived there for 12 years. Both my parents were doctors and owned a small hospital there. Growing up, I saw my parents with their patients and I realzied how rewarding the life of a doctor is, which is why I decided that my profession would be in the healthcare field. But for some reason, medicine really didnt attract me. To this day, I still dont know why. I thought about biomedical engineering but took some programming courses in high school and decided that life in front of a computer screen was not for me.
One day at a high school job fair I walked by a booth and I was asked "How would you like to be a dentist?" and a lightbulb just went off in my head. I realized that dentistry combines my three passions: science, the desire to work with/help people, and working with my hands. I shadowed dentists and volunteered at a dental clinic and I the first time I saw a tooth extraction I said to myself "I cant wait until I get to do that!"
So, this is honestly my long and drawn out reason to be a dentist. Do you think that this would make a good answer?
