Why Derm Lifestyle > Rads?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The info is what makes this place awesome. I don't think many are interested in reading doomsday scenarios
Sometimes the info is closer to doomsday than one would like to imagine. Coming "face to face" with attendings on here telling you the worrisome aspects of their field is tough. Apparently the response of some people is to run to reddit instead of acknowledge it. I can see why, psychologically speaking. The anesthesia subforum is a great example. I don't think a lot of residents even understand that crnas aren't the big potential issue with anesthesia. So you hear people on reddit talking about the job market without understanding what the worry is. It's frustrating to watch.

I have never seen any indication from any of my classmates that they look into stuff like job market/salary, time off, call burden etc. People are out here choosing their career 100% based on which services they had the most fun observing. It's wild

That's naive in general but an even more terrible idea if you only rotate with academic physicians and hospital systems. Even top schools send people into PP, even if it's after a few years in academics, and these people have no clue what it's like. I couldn't imagine.

Not to mention that an extra year of research during medical school is becoming increasingly common for applicants to the competitive specialties. It is sort of nonsensical when you think about it, especially for fields like Derm that are overwhelmingly sending people into private practice jobs where they'll never touch research.
Oh here comes the “I still do research all the time” comments
