Why didn't you do research ?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You can be honest also if this is your case : "i am not particularly interested in research "

In my interview, what if they ask this ?

can i say "I didn't time for research, b/c i was focused on school and volunteering" or is that bad excuse

I just wasn't interested in doing it right now. I spent my time doing other things. This doesn't mean I don't like it or won't be interested in it later...there just isn't time to do everything and it was lower on my priority list.

A lot of people told me I HAVE to do research because leaving that section blank on my app would look really bad. That's ridiculous. I thought it was stupid to do just for the sake of filling a space on the app, especially since I have no interest in the more research-oriented programs.

I had zero research... and if anyone asked me I was going to tell them the truth "I have no interest in research, I wanna be a clinician".... Plain and simple

those people don't know what theyr talking about.... Majority of dental graduates do not end up in research

you could just interview-ize this comment....i mean you were more focused on building your et cetera and decided that the best time for research would be in the future as your professional interests developed. BAM! there you go.

Research is overrated and bogus in many cases.

For example, my classmate was asked to help out his organic chem professor one afternoon to merely follow a recipe to synthesize a new compound a few consecutive times because the professor was too lazy to do it himself. In return, the professor said he would add his name as a co-author on his research publication. So explain to me how this is legitimate research experience when it's basically cooking class but with some organic chemicals, or what you basically did every week in your organic chem lab course.

my friend researched, all he did was feed rats

If you're going to say you didn't think you would like it, you might want something to back that up. If you said that to me, I'd definitely ask you "How do you know you wouldn't like it?"

Personally, I thought I'd hate research, but I actually enjoy it! But, I don't think I could do it forever; part of the reason I like it is that all my projects always work because they're carefully developed by my mentor. In "real research life" that doesn't happen.

Research is great when you like what you are doing and it is YOUR project. You will literally obsess over your project thinking about why and how all day.

On the other hand research can be completely corrupt and a lot of people only care about getting their names on stuff for the least amount of work possible. A lot of department chairs require their name on everything that comes through even if they never read your paper.
