In my interview, what if they ask this ?
can i say "I didn't time for research, b/c i was focused on school and volunteering" or is that bad excuse

I just wasn't interested in doing it right now. I spent my time doing other things. This doesn't mean I don't like it or won't be interested in it later...there just isn't time to do everything and it was lower on my priority list.
A lot of people told me I HAVE to do research because leaving that section blank on my app would look really bad. That's ridiculous. I thought it was stupid to do just for the sake of filling a space on the app, especially since I have no interest in the more research-oriented programs.

Research is overrated and bogus in many cases.
For example, my classmate was asked to help out his organic chem professor one afternoon to merely follow a recipe to synthesize a new compound a few consecutive times because the professor was too lazy to do it himself. In return, the professor said he would add his name as a co-author on his research publication. So explain to me how this is legitimate research experience when it's basically cooking class but with some organic chemicals, or what you basically did every week in your organic chem lab course.
