Really since the first year of medical school i'm suffering of excessive sleeping...at night i sleep more than 9 hrs..also during classes i feel sleepy...i asked my dr.. went for check up( but i didnt do the thyriod function test).. nothing wrong with me(this's what the told me)..so why this excessive sleeping during night & day.. 😴 .
The problem that medical student shouldn't sleep more than 8 hrs..if i dont find solution for this i wont be good doctor.. i wont find time to study hard..
plz tell me? what's wrong with me! 🙁

Maybe if u excercised more it could give u the energy u desire? 🙂 and keep u on a better course for sleeping...that's just my opinion. Or u could be adjusting yer body to sleeping nine hours a nite. Try using an alarm to wake up an hour earlier. Yer body should adjust within a week or so.....

I agree with the previous poster--increased exercise might help hype up your energy level. Also, do you eat a balanced diet or take supplements? I ask because I overcame at least a year of lethargy during my undergrad by taking vitamin supplements. My diet was absolute crap at the time and I think my body was protesting via sleepiness and low-energy level. Get some vitamins (and maybe even ginseng if you're feeling crazy) and watch the energy levels jump!

ddx: sleep disorder, including OSA; poor sleep hygiene; hypothyroid; clinical depression.

any thoughts?

Sleep thing's got me too. After an hour or two of studying, I've gotta take a nap or I start getting double vision and stuff. Add that up to 2-3 times a day and you've got a first year who isn't studying enough to learn what I should be. Maybe it's the stress.

I'm not too worried about it though. I'm probably just not getting enough caffiene.

Get some blood drawn and rule-out the thyroid before pursuing any of the other differentials. However, in the med student with new-onset daytime somnolence/hypersomnia, poor sleep hygiene seems most likely. Depending on history given by sleep partner, sleep study may be indicated to r/o OSA and primary sleep d/o.

But i dont have any other symptoms of OSA..& what do u mean by>>>poor sleep hygiene!! 😕 .
About getting some vitamins,, i'm afraid of gaining weight 😛 after taking this vitamins..cuz my friend she gain around 10kgs in one year after taking this vits..
