I applied to a school in nc and got an interview. Interview went well in my opinion so I don't think that was holding me back; however, my pcat score was. I just retook the pcat in january for the 2nd time and I felt like I had significant improvement. Unfortunately they just sent me a rejection letter, so basically that score will never be seen by them. I feel like I just wasted 120 dollars on a pcat test to try to put me in a more competitive position.

What the heck, why couldnt they just wait to give me a decision or just give the "waiting on pcat scores" option to me.

general rule of thumb is...once you have your interview, that's pretty much the last thing to go in your "file." Most schools are rolling, so admissions decisions should come quick after an interview vs. schools with discrete admissions. So, any scores/classes/etc... that you may have pending that aren't released by then won't count.

Your only other option is to appeal the decision with the updated PCAT score.

Ohh ok, thanks. So I should wait before calling them to see if my pcat score jumped much higher, then if it did, then most schools have an appeal process I assume?

It's a messed up system if you ask me. I know their is a ton of competitive applicants whom are probably ahead of me, but when some of us on here go out and spend more the 700 dollars on the application process then we would hope to get a fair review. Rejection or not, it should be fair, and thats all I ask. Done venting.

I'm not completely sure about this but I have always thought that if you're rejected after the interview, you were rejected because of the interview and not because of your stats.

Generally yes, but it's weighed in with the rest of your application. Say you have so-so stats and a so-so interview, then you could argue it's a combo of both. If you have stellar stats and a crap interview and you don't get admitted, then for sure it's the interview's fault.

I think in the OP's case, the upped PCAT score could have added to the non-interview portion of his file, thus requiring a lower interview score for admissions purposes.

Or something like that. I view admissions like those trash cans with the collapsing door. Gotta have enough weight to make it open. How much weight comes from paper vs. the interview is up to the applicant.

And on another note, I hate throwing paper at those things since they don't open. Bah.

sorry to hear about your rejection. I think I might be in your situation by the end of this month or in March.

Generally, many pharmacy schools fill their entire class in Feb. and/or March, so the bulk of the rejection letters will be sent out in these two months; especially March.

You should definitely call that school and ask why you were rejected. Most of the time, schools will respond and tell you what you need to work on in your application.

good luck🙂

If your PCAT score ends up being significantly higher, you should just go ahead and send them an appeal. You really have nothing to lose except the 30 min or so it'll take you to write the letter.

Thanks for the advice, I might do this.

Yeah thats too bad. I know the University of Minnesota doesn't even accept the January PCAT. Not sure why but maybe that school doesn't either

no, they do, i asked. Some schools do some don't, but really most don't b/c they've almost filled up their seats by the time the scores come back.
